I've been sounding the horn about this for a while now, but nobody seems to listen.

Bottom line is, when TSHTF and our power grid goes down, all of our nuclear power plants will melt down.

Not a question of if, but when. And it aint gonna be pretty.

Won't they just take them offline?

A reactor can't just be taken off-line.

It takes a loooooooong time for the fuel to cool. If the supply of cooling water or the power supply (to pump the water) are interrupted during shut-down, the core melts down.

Eevn when reactors are in "cold shut-down" and "off-line", they have to have a supply of cooling water continuously circulated around them or else they melt down.

It's a very serious potential problem.

Correct. And they've been storing all of the spent fuel rods at every nuclear power plant for decades. It's not just the reactors themselves that we have to worry about.

When the power grid goes down for whatever reason they go to generator power. And once the generators run out of fuel the power to the cooling system stops.

Then... melt down.

It's amazing how very few people take this shit seriously.
