Re: WTF ?!? # TV NETWORKS SAY You're BREAKING The LAW When You SKIP COMMERCIALS #
I have satellite TV and if I'm paying to receive these various networks I certainly don't want to watch commercials. If it was over the air, "FREE", then commercials pay for my free TV.

Who do these networks think they are? Without distribution channels like COMCAST and DISH, there wouldn't be anybody out there to display their programming other than a mom/pop broadcaster.

Networks should be paying the distribution outlets rather than the other way around. It would be very easy for DISH or COMCAST to create their own virtual networks and compete directly with the public with their own material and talent.

So if I was a network exec, I would step down from my perceived high value and merit, think again, because you can be replaced at the distribution point.

Suck it up, everybody is hurting.

If I remember correctly...when cable TV first started the big selling point was NO COMMERCIALS.

Paying for the cable SUBSCRIPTION was enough and they didn't have to show commercials..

What happened?

By the way, do television networks break the law and/or all basic rules and code(s) of conduct of society, when they say absolute bulls... like this?!

Worlwide and simultaneously and on (almost) all areas of life, the freedom and the civil liberties etc. of the common people are massively endangered.

If this utter bulls... on all areas of life is not stopped timely and completely, then life on earth will become a daily hell for all common people, if it has not already become like this...

Its two and a half years now since I disconnected my cable. No regrets. Got sick of Muting the commercials every 5mins. Got sick of all the reality crap shows that insult our intelligence. The Mute button got worn out from heavy use. The tv programs are Mind Control programs. Get rid of it & free your mind.

Absolutely correct. It is the VIEWERS choice, not Dish's.

The argument being made (i would think, i have not read the case) is Dish is interfering with a contract (between the networks and commercial). Dish makes the decision to skip the commercial, not the consumer...or so is the argument.

Personally, i would love to be able to skip the commercials automatically. But I want to be the one who makes the choice. Or skip the commercials I want.

This is about much more than commercials. They will use this to set the precedent. There will be so much public support for Dish and the hopper. Everyone will be excited when Dish wins and we can all skip commercials automatically.

As always, this precedent will be used for something 1000% more important that we all dont want. Just think of how many things that you get from company "A" but all company "A" does is provide you or distribute to you something that company "B" and company "C" make. Now company "A' has a precedent to alter/change/modify whatever it is that they provide/distribute.

Anybody here want an ISP to have that right? Just think of what they could do with that precedent. too many examples to list with this one.

Anybody here want a bank to have that right? Just think, you and your employer have agreed to have your paycheck direct deposited into your bank. Do you want your bank to be able to alter that?

Like i said, this is about much more than skipping commercials. the implications are endless.

And yes, i want to be able to skip commercials. But i want it to be my choice! There is much more here going on behind the scenes, they want this to pass so that they can use it on other things.

Just my opinion.

Re: WTF ?!? # TV NETWORKS SAY You're BREAKING The LAW When You SKIP COMMERCIALS #
Wonder what it will do to their ratings and the value of their commercial time sales when all good "law abiding" citizens start getting their TV from Commercial free sources?? I mean if the networks want to accuse me of doing something illegal, they'd better be prepared for the fact that I will take my viewing elsewhere! I don't need their crummy shows. They need viewers. Maybe the fucking morons at the network have forgotten that salient fact, but I can assure you the rest of America has not!

I will happily put all commercial containing channels on my "skip" list so I won't even see them as I'm trying to decide what to watch. Let a few hundred thousand families do that and suddenly the commercial time in prime-time is going to be half as costly as it was previously. Maybe even less!

The rating systems can be crashed by a few families running over to HBO or Showtime and letting NBC, CBS, and ABC (and maybe FOX too) rot!

DO you enjoy being slaves? If so, then good! We can make you even more gullible with our plans to increase your Cable and satellite bills! Keep watching you morons! In Holland we have 3 'public' channels. A bit like the BBC with commercial blocks inbetween programs.

Besides that there are six or seven commercial channels where you can watch pretty much programs inbetween commercials.

I gave up watching films & tv shows there long ago.

Really?? no one thinks.. if networks lose all they will do is make the commercials take place during the show to bypass this function. like CNN ticker tape updates. while the show is on they will put advertising at the bottom of the screen. This is more subliminal than most commercials are now.

Think ppl, this is all part of the bigger picture.

TV Networks Say You're Breaking The Law When You Skip Commercials
Mitch Stoltz
Saturday, May 26, 2012

Television networks are having a busy month trying to stamp out new TV-watching technology, including telling a court that skipping a commercial while watching a recorded show is illegal. Yesterday, Fox, NBC, and CBS all sued Dish Network over its digital video recorder with automatic commercial-skipping. The same networks, plus ABC, Univision, and PBS, are gearing up for a May 30 hearing in their cases against Aereo, a New York startup bringing local broadcast TV to the Internet.

EFF and Public Knowledge filed an amicus brief supporting Aereo this week.

The suits against Dish are a response to the "Hopper" DVR and its "Auto Hop" feature, which automatically skips over commercials. According to the networks' complaints, the Hopper automatically records eight days' worth of prime time programming on the four major networks that subscribers can play back on request. Beginning a few hours after the broadcast, viewers can choose to watch a program sans ads.

Has anyone noticed the 'delayed' sound volume increase on commercials?

Apparently, on some commercials, they start with the equivalent sound you set, then, after 3-5 seconds the sound doubles or triples.

This is not the 'sound-quality' propaganda urban myth.

This is particularly abusive and I would never patronize one of these products or services that purchase such abuse.

Please you don't either.

Please take note of the sponser's that do this AND DON'T SUPPORT THEM IN ANY WAY, SHAPE OR FORM WITH YOUR MONEY OR ATTENTION!!!
