i think tv should be free if you have to watch commercials and if you pay $60 a month you shouldn't have to watch any commercials ever. what they are doing NOW should be considered illegal
 Quoting: IvantZtrooth

There's no basis for declaring it illegal. Its like saying that because you have a membership at Costco that everything in the store should be free. It doesn't work that way.

The networks produce the shows, the satellite and cable providers distribute them. Both expect and have a right to be paid for their services. Its a shitty system they've devised, with ads generating revenue to partially pay the networks, but the alternative to ads would be for the networks to demand more money from cable/satellite for distribution right and for the cable/satellite providers to demand MUCH higher subscription rates to offset it.

no tardo, im saying if they are considering it illegal to skip commercials then it should be illegal to pay for a program and be forced to watch bullshit brain-washing marketing propaganda inbetween

Someone once installed a program called ad-block on my computer and I remember it felt like heaven had opened it's doors for my kinda people & kicked out all the relitards.

So why is there no tv ad-block chip - an ad app available?

Next, a strap will come out of your sofa and hold you down during commericals, making sure you watch.

If I remember correctly...when cable TV first started the big selling point was NO COMMERCIALS.

Paying for the cable SUBSCRIPTION was enough and they didn't have to show commercials..

What happened?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1211208

That is how it was in North Carolina in the late 70's.
You would usually see a countdown to when the show would continue or the people in the studio waiting for the break to end.

What happened? Corporatism (Fascism) happened.

1#Stupidity

"Only two things are infinite the universe and stupidity.
And I am not sure about the former."

- Albert Einstein

This documentary about stupidity tells us the history of the word "moron", the difference between stupid, moron, smart, intelligent, genius and questions the regular practice of classifying peoples intelligence through standardized IQ tests. Of course also Mr. Bush is examined in this report. A well educated guy who, nevertheless, acts in a completely dumb way - or at least wants us to believe so.

TV Networks Say You're Breaking The Law When You Skip Commercials
Mitch Stoltz
Saturday, May 26, 2012

Television networks are having a busy month trying to stamp out new TV-watching technology, including telling a court that skipping a commercial while watching a recorded show is illegal. Yesterday, Fox, NBC, and CBS all sued Dish Network over its digital video recorder with automatic commercial-skipping. The same networks, plus ABC, Univision, and PBS, are gearing up for a May 30 hearing in their cases against Aereo, a New York startup bringing local broadcast TV to the Internet.

EFF and Public Knowledge filed an amicus brief supporting Aereo this week.

The suits against Dish are a response to the "Hopper" DVR and its "Auto Hop" feature, which automatically skips over commercials. According to the networks' complaints, the Hopper automatically records eight days' worth of prime time programming on the four major networks that subscribers can play back on request. Beginning a few hours after the broadcast, viewers can choose to watch a program sans ads.

PROBLEM-SOLUTION:

They will fix this in the FEMA camps:

Clockwork Orange-type programming for everyone. If you don't watch a sufficient number of commercial minutes per day you will become violently ill and die.

I predict the Supreme Court will determine NOT watching commercials is not an offense againt broadcasters deserving a monetary fine. The SCOTUS decision will be people are free to skip commercials if they so desire, but Congress can impose a "not watching commercials" TAX for doing so.

 Quoting: RoXY

Years ago, I seem to remember a device which worked using the VIB (vertical interval blanking) signal in tv signals. This is a hidden signal at the top of the tv frame which can supply data to local stations. When you go from network to commercial, the VIB would usually change format. This allowed the device to cut off/return video at the correct time, essentially eliminating commercials. Had to be nearly 20 years ago. The company/patent was probably purchased by an ad agency somewhere and it disappeared. Anyone remember the device? Hooked between your VCR and tv.

Why don’t CBS, FOX, and NBC execs want consumers to enjoy commercial-free TV? It’s what we want! I’m a customer and employee of Dish, and I think Auto Hop is great because you can easily watch commercial-free TV. A well known consumer advocacy group, Public Knowledge, agrees that people should have the right to control how they watch TV. They’re taking a stand for consumers by creating a petition that tells CBS, FOX, and NBC media to keep their hands out of your living room and DVR. Sign their petition to keep control of how you watch TV [link to DON'T_USE-THIS]
