Is it right to put an animal out of its misery? | |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 8293311 United States 05/27/2012 08:18 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Just wondering, spiritually speaking... Quoting: ChickenInACan There is a baby bunny we found in the back yard today with a broken neck. He cannot sit up straight and can only twirl around in fear when we come near. He cannot walk. He seems to be just laying there panting now. He is breathing very fast and his eyes seem to be rolling back into his head. Should we put him out of his misery? He seems to be in a lot of pain. If yes, how should we do it? We don't have any guns here Are you retarded? Grab a rock and hit it as hard as you can in the head. |

It's never easy, but with humane drugs, we can do it without completely losing it as far as emotions go. I can't imagine having to do it by any other means, (I.E. hitting them in the head with rocks, like the above poster stated). User Image: [link to img509.imageshack.us] |

The eye rolling is a sure-fire sign of either seizing or another neurological problem going on as a result of the damage to it's neck/spinal cord. It was likely attacked and somehow escaped. Please try to get it to an SPCA or humane society shelter as soon as possible. They will be able to put it to sleep very quickly and painless. User Image: [link to img509.imageshack.us] |

Quoting: Brightsighed End even though a rock to its' head would be equally quick, somehow we have been guilted by people into thinking that it is only "humane" if you pay a vet to do it with chemicals. Just smack it with the rock and bury it. But don't tell any liberals or you will probably be charged with a crime. |

If you are certain, and there is no local help, then it's a decision you'll have to make for yourself. I personally couldn't do it - I just can't kill anything with intent, not even insects. |

I was thinking more along the lines of the fact that it would probably be easier for OP to let a shelter handle it than try to muster up the strength to hit a defenseless animal on the head if they have any reservations about stuff like that. Not to mention, animal shelters cannot charge public for surrendering injured strays. Nor can they charge the finders of said animals for the lethal injections. It's a cost they absorb or pay for with donations if they choose to accept the stray into their care. Last Edited by Brightsighed on 05/27/2012 08:36 PM User Image: [link to img509.imageshack.us] |

Wildlife rehabilitation center won't answer their phone. So I guess we are going to have to do it ourselves. Really hope there's a good way to do it clean, quick, painless..... shit |

"Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you." - Matthew 22: 37-39 "What good will it be for a man if he gains the whole world, yet forfeits his soul? Or what can a man give in exchange for his soul?" - Galatians 5: 22-23 |

Scuba7 05/28/2012 04:37 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | A quick (and reasonably painless way) is to grab its back legs, and swing it with force against a wall, or even car tyre. Its never nice, but sometimes you have to do this shit. Poor thing. Send him home. Do not take memories of what happened yesterday, into what might happen today. When love is your greatest weakness, you will be the strongest person in the world. |

Perhaps, depending on how old it is, he is too young to use its muscles? Eyes rolling in the back of its head hmmm.. |

Its never nice, but sometimes you have to do this shit. Poor thing. Send him home. The problem is we "people" transpose our emotions into this realm. Do you think the coyote enjoys the kill of the bunny? Or is he just satisfying his hunger? Do you think the bunny feels sorry for himself as hes being chomped by the coyote? Probably not. He might feel pain for a couple seconds, but hes not thinking how unfortunate his circumstances are and that he will never say goodbye to his 7 female partners and 95 children. There is a certain pattern to life that we humans fail to understand about the animal world. The cycle of life is the cycle of creation. The best thing to do is to stop the suffering! Do the right thing and don't prolong the pain! |
