The end of one age is near yes, the mayans do tell of the end of an age and the coming of a new one. Its not the end of the earth, only once a huge death star like device in space blows earth to kingdom come or we have the earth sweeped out with a black hole and time itself would have a hard time running. Just go with the functions of reality and humanity and enjoy your life the best you can until you know for certain that the end was in fact near.
