Did I seriously hurt my back?
I'm a guilty past and present abuser of my back.
I've always tried to use good body posture when lifting but that doesn't always get the job done.

What I noticed first this past week was my lower back muscles spasming and cramping up, the ones along side the spine.
It's intermittant but seems to be triggered by bending down.
Then when I stand up sometimes I get a sharp shooting pain up my spine.
Today was the worst, my lower back cramped up and then it felt like my back sort of changed shape and the angle of my arch was increased. I think its called the "lumbar curve", that area.
When the cramp stopped my back's shape pretty much went back to normal but I still have nonstop pain of varying degrees.
For awhile I couldn't even sit in a chair or walk around without needing to hunch over or lay down. Now I'm better, can sit and walk okay but I still have constant pain and aching.

Anybody experience back pain similar or know what this is a sign of?
I'm gonna go get it checked out tommorrow except I can't decide if the urgent care or the ER is better.

The thing is it's not as bad as it was so I feel a little stupid going to the ER with low pain levels but I don't know if an urgent care can diagnose it.
I want an x-ray.
I'm not happy with my family doctor, her whole office treats their patients as an inconvenience and bother. So that's not an option.

Some honest advice......go find a DECENT doctor.....or at the VERY least a decent chiropractor and let him do an X-Ray.
You can then see if there is bone, tissue, muscle damage.

and THEN?

Stop abusing your back! thwak peace

I will. Then I'll tell the boss he can do it himself and I'll stand by and watch.
Chiropractor?I don't know about that, I had an adjustment one time that I consider to have been a near death experience. Maybe I'll think about it.
It's kind of a toss up between the ER and urgent care.

Anyways, well I guess no GLP'rs have any idea of what could have happened huh?

Consider this.....
ONE DAY....your back may go out....and NOT COME BACK.
Then you will not be lifting anything and another person living on disability trying to get by.

At some point....you MAY need to consider a career change.

Nite dude. getwell <-------- for real.

Sounds exactly like what I did to my back. I always had pain from lifting, but it would subside. Then one day I bent over to pick something up that was under a table, so I had to bend down and stretch in an awkward position. I knew something terrible was happening. I couldn't get up without being in excruciating pain. It took me forever to get to my bed. The only position I was somewhat comfortable in was lying on my side in a sort of a fetal position. Laying in bed lasted a day and a half. I literally had to crawl on the floor to go to the bathroom.

My friend, who had a similar problem, took me to her chiropractor. My body was in a L-shape position, bent at the waist, when I walked in. I had never been to a chiropractor, but I was desperate. He took x-rays and did his thing. He said it was muscle spasms. By the time he was done, I could stand up nearly straight and I felt probably 95 percent better.

I continued getting treatment for a couple of months. The bottom line is I try not to lift anything heavy, although at times I have to. I've had to go back to him a few times, but nothing was a bad as that episode. I haven't been to the chiropractor for a couple of years now, but I'm careful in what I do. BTW, the times I have gone back, I would only go two or three times and be cured (of whatever particular episode I've gone for).

So you might want to go see a chiropractor. I'm definitely a believer. I've heard about quite a few people who have had similar symptoms to mine and have been helped.

Good luck, OP. Back pain can be a real horror.

Re: Did I seriously hurt my back?
OP im recovering from the exact same problem. Doctor gave me some pain killers, anti inflammatory pills, some gel and a week of physio therapy lessons. At the physiotherapy they put ultrasound on my lower back muscles, followed by a heat pad and a massage. Then they would show me some stretches. Ive had this problem before. Sometimes it lasts a week and sometimes it lasts a month. This time i dont know how it happened to be honest. Maybe i stretched something too hard before jogging. Your achilles, hamstrings, glutes, and lower back are all connected. I think i was stretching my hamstrings and might have pulled too hard which led to a rip or overstretch in my lower back. Stiff back muscles are usually a cause for this. Sometimes walking out of the shower and into cold air can cause muscle spasms in the back. Another time i had this problem was because i lifted a suitcase. Whatever the problem may be, i hope you get well soon.

sounds like the core muscles in u lower back. these just get weaker as u age. you can excercise them by.

sucking in a breath and kinda try and pull yr nuts up, sounds fishy but thats a great exercise for yr problem, another one for yo lower back is "bitch pushups" leave yr legs on the floor and bow yr back let is relax with gravity.

If you have not exercised your back muscles in a long time -it could be the problem, I had 2 years of lower back problem (repetitives lombar sprains), got rid of this doing physiotherapy and now I fell good no more back problem !
