All I want to know is if only 5% of the sea creatures have been discovered, then 95% have not.....how would you know that? until you know what 100% is, you can't know what 5% is. For all we know, they could find 5 more animals in the sea and that's it. |

[link to torrentfreak.com] As others previously stated, the website being "seized"is a fake. When you go to the website, the top of the tab still have the "name". If you go to bodog.com, torrent-finder.com, firstrowsports.tv, the tabs state "this has been seized by ICE" |

[link to www.irs.gov] 9.1.3.4.6 (05-15-2008) 18 USC §286 - Conspiracy to Defraud the Government with Respect to Claims Title 18 USC §286 makes it a crime to enter into an agreement, combination or conspiracy to defraud the United States or any Federal agency by obtaining or aiding to obtain the payment or allowance of any false, fictitious or fraudulent claim. In a prosecution under 18 USC §286, the government must prove that the defendants agreed to engage in a scheme to defraud the government and knew that the objective of the scheme was illegal. The government must also prove that the conspirators agreed to defraud the government by obtaining the payment of false claims against the government. The government need not establish an overt act undertaken in furtherance of the conspiracy in order to prove a violation of 18 USC §286 because, unlike 18 USC §371 (discussed below), a 18 USC §286 conspiracy does not require an overt act. However, as a practical matter, the elements of proof in 18 USC §286 investigations generally do not differ from proof in 18 USC §371 tax investigations, because in most false claims conspiracy investigations the existence of the agreement will be proven by acts that were undertaken in furthering the conspiracy or in consummating the attempt to obtain payment of the claim. 9.1.3.4.7 (05-15-2008) 18 USC §287- False, Fictitious or Fraudulent Claims Title 18 USC §287 prohibits making or presenting to a Federal employee, officer or agency any claim against the United States or any Federal agency with the knowledge that such claim is false, fictitious or fraudulent. 9.1.3.4.7.1 (05-15-2008) 18 USC §287- Elements of the Offense The elements of the offense under 18 USC §287 are: the defendant presented a claim against the Federal government the claim was false, fictitious, or fraudulent the defendant knew that the claim was false, fictitious, or fraudulent Courts have defined both the terms "false" and "fictitious" within the meaning of 18 USC §287 as "untrue when made, and then known to be untrue by the person making it or causing it to be made." The term "fraudulent" in this context has been defined to mean "known to be untrue, and made or caused to be made with the intent to deceive[.] 9.1.3.4.8 (05-15-2008) 18 USC §371- Conspiracy to Commit Offense or to Defraud the United States Title 18 USC §371, the general Federal conspiracy statute, defines the crime of conspiracy as follows: "If two or more persons conspire either to commit any offense against the United States, or to defraud the United States, or any agency thereof in any manner or for any purpose, and one or more of such persons do any act to effect the object of the conspiracy, each shall be [guilty of a felony].… If, however, the offense, the commission of which is the object of the conspiracy, is a misdemeanor only, the punishment for such conspiracy shall not exceed the maximum punishment provided for such misdemeanor." The criminal statutes in Title 26 of the USC do not include the crime of conspiracy. Therefore, tax-related conspiracies are generally prosecuted under 18 USC §371. |

Going to that website reveals the website has been seized by the DOJ and Homeland Security Investigations unit. The site looks like this: Mermaids Website Seized by DOJ & Homeland Security However, with further investigation and by looking at the Source Code of the website in question we can see this is more of a publicity stunt done by Discovery Channel and Animal Planet. The website’s tagging and descriptions on the source code reveal that is more for entertainment than an actual Department of Homeland Security or DOJ confiscation of a website. Things like the title, “Mermaids are Real Real Evidence from Dr. Paul Robertson, NOAA researcher” and the title of the main DOJ Image, “Mermaid Legends-Mermaid Sightings-water creature” and the alt text of the image, “Mermaid legend is true, and there is proof of real live mermaids” make you believe that this site was keyworded to go along with the Mermaid’s Body Found series on Animal Planet. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 12256465 [link to www.believeinmermaids.com] Its an image being served by the webserver itself. If the fbi seized it, it would have been a dns redirect. Yep this person is correct. The FBI did not shut this down. The owner of the website simply used an image and put it as their webpage. Look at the title tag.... Why would DHS keep the title tags the same? This is fake as hell and probably a publicity stunt, Did anyone stop to think that is what they wanted? For this to look as fake as possible. To have evidence supporting the fact that it was fake. What purpose would making something like this up serve? |

The government and navy have been trying to keep this secret for a long time and what they want to keep secret stays secret. They have found bodies all over the world and have done autopsies on them but all we know is the government doesn't want us to know about this |

| Anonymous Coward User ID: 20034966 07/19/2012 01:51 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | It's possible that the website said negative things against the US Navy about the sonar testing. The Navy denied that the cause of the whales and dolphins breaching was due to the sonar testing. So, if this website blamed them or simply worded a sentence the wrong way, the government could seize the site for conspiracy to incriminate said government. It may not be because they're trying to "hide" that mermaids might exist, it may just be about the navy incident. I don't see why they would care about a mermaid website other than that, again, why hide mermaids to begin with? With regards to the show, Discovery channel made a statement explaining the show was mostly science fiction with some basing in science and all footage was fake besides the footage depicting the breached whales and such. I personally believe the seizing of the website was falsified and is nothing more than a public hoax to create hype for the show. (Exactly what it has done.) Then again, it could be due to what I said above. Who knows? Nevertheless, I found the show engaging and extremely intriguing. I enjoy a good delve into scientific theory. |
