The thing is, nothing excites me anymore. It's a chore to do anything. The only thing that makes me feel good is drinking. I can't do antidepressants. Everyone I have tried put me in the hospital w/ extreme low blood pressure. So I guess I am fucked. My kids definitely deserve a mom who can enjoy them and life without wine. I just don't know how to get out of this place w.out meds, and meds mess me up.

have you tried natural anti-depressents?

5-HTP, Saint Johns Wort; Mangesium is good for depression, anxiety and energy. B vitamins help neurotransmiter synth.

Theres alot more but thats where I'd start.

Funny you as because in 2 days my shipment from amazon.com will arrive and I ordered NOW Mood Support which got good reviews and has St John's Wort but a bunch of other things like amino acids too. I just got off Sam-E like a week ago and this coincides with me drinking a bottle of wine per day, so could the withdrawal of the Sam-E be causing this? It's very possible. Sam-E was doing something for me but it was $40 every 2 months for only 400 mg a day and that is not even a therapeutic dose.

5-htp did a little something for me but not enough. They all seem to do not enough or too much. I am hoping this new stuff I ordered will work out.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 8806956

I would stick with vitamin D3, 5000IU a day plus 500 mg of magnesium. Don't get too complicated. Just try to be as simple as possible and enjoy life.

I don't think a bottle a night is that bad. The Italians and the French do it. You will know when you're out of control.
 Quoting: Aunty Flo

True! I don't wake up regretting it most of the time. I know alcoholics whose lives were consumed by booze to the point they'd drink on the job. I just drink every evening. Still, I am concerned because I have leaky gut syndrome and I am pretty sure drinking everyday isn't going to help, but then again I don't think it is harming me honestly.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 8806956

My husband is the same, he polishes off a bottle of red pretty much every night. He also mountain bikes about 100km's every week. He is healthy and productive. If you can handle it, there's no problem. Me on the other hand, am the worse binge drinker. I won't stop until I've fallen down. So I don't drink at all now.

That's awesome. To live long and be healthy and still have your drinks, that's how it should be. I guess it's just genetic. I don't know. Like I said, my alcoholic mom got Alzheimers at 55 but then again she had a total hysterectomy at age 42, was on hormone replacement therapy (now proven to CAUSE DEMENTIA), and she already was already breaking bones in her 30s just from minor slips, so there was something else going on there. Her doctor told me it was because she drank a bottle of wine a day. I just have a hard time believing that.

Re: Anyone else drink a bottle of wine per day?
I drink half a bottle for lunch and a bottle or two for dinner most days.

I am 31 and in peak physical condition. I run a few miles every morning and do 100 sit ups and push ups every morning. no family history of cancers or anything like that.

I have shitloads of money and lots of great wine. wine is treasure and it's medicinal. one or two bottles over 5 or 6 hours is nothing but alright.

"a meal without wine is like a day without sunshine"

the real pleasure when you get to know your wine is to pair it perfectly with the food you are eating, for example for lunch today I had a beautiful provence rose with some bayonne ham and melon and quails eggs, quite sublime!

I hardly ever drink wine without food. that is what rum punch and gin and tonics are for.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 16881927

I'd be in trouble if I had shitloads of money b/c I love expensive wines. Just now I got home with a bottle of French rose. I plopped down $10 for it which is a treat for me. I'm eating it with some sharp raw white cheddar. I don't know if that is a great pairing but it's working for me.

Your meal sounds awesome. I am grain free and dairy free (except raw). I suppose if I drank it with meals that would be a lot better. It's harsh on an empty stomach but that's how I've been drinking it since I'm starving on this paleo diet I just started last week. Maybe that's why I am drinking more, I don't know.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 8806956

Starving on Paleo diet? Lol. Trust me, compared to others, there's less starving on Paleo Diet if you add enough fats yet there will be overall lower calories intake due to less hunger. No big deal. It takes a couple weeks to get adjusted to the big changes. I'm not sure what you're doing it but a juicy rib-eye steak, avocado on the side and buttered steamed broccoli is awesome.

If you want to save money on wine, hit walmart for box wine. Damn only 12 bucks... for 12.5% alcohol for 5 liters.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 11391699

I need better meal planning then. I have a terrible diet. This is what I've eaten all day:

Breakfast/lunch - Cup of miso soup, one raw carrot, one turkey hot dog (no nitrates)

Dinner - Jack in the Box chicken teriyaki rice bowl. Yeah I know I cheated with the grains but I had no other options while I was out and about.

That's all I've had to eat and I dont need to lose weight, so the wine will help me with that.

I think it takes a whole row of grapes to make one bottle of wine if I recall correctly. I would need a lot of grapes! Maybe I should just go back to vodka. I will get more bang for my buck and I won't crave it like I do a nice, smooth glass of wine.

Or I could just quit. When I am good and ready. When things settle down in my life. I lack really good friends and that isn't helping. The friends I have are really nice but they aren't people I'd totally open up to. I have two friends that I could do that to and they don't live near me.

withdrawl from sam-e should't make you crave alcohol but it could cause additional depression.

If SAMe was doing something for you, consider switching to Tri-Mythl-Glycine (TMG). Amoung other things it is a co-factor to help your body make additional SAMe.

5HTP and Saint Johns Wort should help.

DMAE can also help with focus, attention and helps reduce alcohol cravings.

I haven't always done this so nasty people can feck off. I am just in a really bad place and I find that a bottle of wine each evening melts away the stress and allows me to be a better mother. I will actually really enjoy hanging out with my kids as opposed to just going through the motions with them

Now that I have done this for about a week, I feel like a bottle of wine isn't all that much when drunk over the course of several hours. Obviously I do not want to make a habit out of this. I am just surprised how easy it is to do!

I drink the $5 bottles like Rex Goliath because I'm not rich. I don't get hangovers either. Surely there are others who also polish off a bottle a day?

I drink two glasses of wine per day. If I start to want more, I cut back. A bottle a day is a bit much. Someone suggested exercise, and I agree, it makes you feel good, even a long walk each day will help.

BTW, I take a very low dose of Zoloft, and it works for me (for my ADD specifically). I don't know, but I'd start with exercise. Good luck!

Re: Anyone else drink a bottle of wine per day?
I have been drinking a bottle of wine almost every night for the past 10 years. I am 36, have a dream job and have normal relationships. However, I eat very healthy and drink a lot of water/natural juices. I think this has helped me to still be healthy though wine is my vice. When I get home and start making dinner it's how I relax after work to shut my mind off and help me fall asleep. I know it's not ideal but either is eating McDonalds or smoking. We all have these vices and if you don't, how blessed you are to have no problems.

I often do, but not in order to deal with "nasty" reality, but to enjoy that said life. Life is good, and wine is part of the good things in life.

It's partially a cultural thing [ I'm a feckin' Bulgarian ], because I've grown up in a place where our smallest wine barrel was 200 liters "big" [ it was, in fact, small, and you can do the calculations for your gallons ]. My grand and grand-grand dads used to sit on the lunch and dinner tables with amounts like 1-1.4 liters, it was just part of the everyday meals. No one ever had liver issues, too. Your liver can get fucked from toxic stuff, not from some good, organic fermented grape juice - that's what good wine is.

In fact, at the moments when life sucks a little - less moneyz etc, I can't afford to have it, so I make a good detox pauses, it happens often enough ya know :D

Also, based on our cultural perception, we do not consider wine and beer as alcohol, just because real men do drink them as much as they please, and only wussiez get drunk from beer or/and wine. Real alcohol is the really strong schnapps we also brew at home, that has nothing to do with these toxic liquids sold in the store, which I refuse touching.

Reality is very personal thing.

Oh, all of my ancestors died in their minimum late 80's, some quite close to 100 y.o. and none of them because of liver issues. You guessed right - they were pouring good wine down their throats all life long.

Cheers ! [ not now, now life "sucks" a bit hahahaha :D ]

Re: Anyone else drink a bottle of wine per day?
I drink beer or wine every night to excess. Been doing this for at least 25 years now.

Do not eat at least a few hours before drinking. I try not to eat and drink together. Best is to eat hearty early then nothing later. I cannot stress this enough.

Coffee. Drink as much as you can the morning after. Rehydrate with six to eight cups of coffee/ tea. No sugar or cream. No soft drinks. Water is okay.

High protein breakfast. Eggs sausage pork. Stay away from high carbohydrates until later in the day. Pork is a good source of b vitamins that alcohol uses up.

By the way I work out (walking) every day and am in better shape than 90% of my coworkers.

My old man did. Three cases of pancreatitis later he developed type 2 diabetes and switched his jones for wine to hydrocodone. He's 78, has a pacemaker, congestive heart failure and still smokes a pack a day. For the life of me I have no idea how the grim reaper hasn't yet collected his ass, but I can only conclude his continued neglect of himself is like some weird badge of honor. It's like it's all he has left in life.

Re: Anyone else drink a bottle of wine per day?
I do. Well, up until last week.

Honestly, it's not even intentional, just before I know it the bottle is empty.

Last week I drank 4 strong cocktails, a bottle of wine and finished off the night with cider.... all in roughly 6 hours.
I didn't have a hangover, which I clearly deserved. I was a little concerned about my intake anyway but that tipped the balance. I've since, made a bottle last 3 days! Also, didn't have any alcohol today even though it's my day off.

I wouldn't worry about it at this point as it has only been a week but keep track of time passing by. I have been drinking like this for over a year and don't have any kind of dependence but since alcoholism appears to run in my family (if that is possible) I am always conscious of how much I am having.

Re: Anyone else drink a bottle of wine per day?
banana2I drink about half a bottle a day (2 glasses) of wine, and Im a healthy, regularly exercising 30 year 6'4" 250lb male. I did this for about 4 months and upon my most recent doctors visit my blood pressure was down to the correct range, cholesteral down, all good things. So when you keep it in check, things work out well. My quality of life was great, very low stress. When I gradually worked my way up to a bottle a day due to lifes stressors and the thought process of "one more glass couldnt hurt" I found myself downing a bottle a night, sometimes more. This began to affect my sleep and I was groggy the next day.
I also started gaining weight, and thats never a good thing.

I eventually just quit alcohol for a month since I noticed I was out of control. I recently started drinking 1 glass a night again, but you must make certain to not overdue it. When your quality of life suffers from drinking, its no longer a soothing medication and therapy, its unfortuneatley a problem that needs addressing.

So yeah, one bottle a night of wine seems like too much for me and Im a big guy. If you get that low alcohol stuff (ya know, 7-8%) then I guess that would be ok, but a full strength 13% bottle seems like it will do more harm than good.

I just peeked into this thread out because of nosiness basically. I used to drink for whatever reason: kids, stress, inner pain, etc., etc. That was a long time ago. I didn't quit because someone toldl me to but because it was literally killin' me. I'm so glad I don't drink today because if there is any time to be alert, it would be now. God bless you.
