Body parts found in the mail in Ottawa on Tuesday are believed to be from a male whose dismembered torso was discovered tossed out with garbage in Montreal.

The horrific case is now being investigated by Montreal police, with assistance from Major Crime detectives in Ottawa. Police in Montreal are expected to issue an update Wednesday afternoon.

“The investigators have reason to believe that there is a link but there’s nothing proven yet,” a Montreal police source told QMI Agency. “The investigation was transferred from Ottawa to Montreal. There is no medico-legal link that has been done, the test results have not come back yet to connect the hand and the foot.

Montreal police have identified a young man with a disturbing online profile in connection with the discovery of a man’s torso whose hand and foot were mailed to Ottawa through Canada Post.

Luka Rocco Magnotta is not in custody, police say.

Magnotta is allegedly a former stripper and porn star with multiple websites depicting him in various photo spreads. He has been romantically linked to schoolgirl killer Karla Homolka.
