Preparing for the RNC in Tampa? INTERNATIONAL & US military forces stage "urban war drill", "mock terrorist attack"!!

These videos really shocked me, what are they anticipating happening???

TAMPA, Fla. — The commander in charge of the raid to kill Osama bin Laden is defending his proposal that would give him more authority to send special operations forces overseas to address problems like terrorism or sudden Arab Spring-style unrest.

At a rare press conference during a weeklong meeting of international special operations forces, Adm. Bill McRaven said the plan would also trim some of the limits on where and how special operations troops work. But those troops would still answer to U.S. commanders overseas, not him, and missions would be coordinated with and approved by the U.S. ambassadors, he said.

“We need special operations forces who are as comfortable drinking tea with tribal leaders as raiding a terrorist compound,” Clinton said. “We also need diplomats and development experts who understand modern warfare and are up to the job of being your partners.”

McRaven’s plan, first reported by The Associated Press in January, is to send special operations forces to work with local forces — something they are already doing, but in smaller numbers as they’ve been tied up in Iraq and Afghanistan. The continuous interaction means the U.S. and local officers forge ties, build the local force’s skills and jointly track local threats that might include terrorists or drug traffickers.

“The only way you can neutralize terrorist action is ... integrating our intelligence and working together,” said Colombian Brig. Gen. Juan Pablo Rodriguez Barragan. He noted successful joint U.S.-Colombian operations against the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia, or FARC, rebel group.

Barragan was one of the officers from 97 countries who had come to learn new strategies and techniques, and see an array of U.S. special operations technology.

Good training drastically reduces the chance of real violence.

Most of the value in these excercises is in the minute details most people neither know nor care about. Making sure everyone's radios are on the proper channels, things like that.

I guess the mayor of Tampa already tried to have guns banned during the RNC convention but was unable to do so:




Florida's Gov. Scott: No gun ban for downtown Tampa during GOP convention

Florida Gov. Rick Scott has shot down a request by Tampa's mayor to allow local authorities to ban guns from the city's downtown during the Republican National Convention in August.

Citing Second Amendment protections in the U.S. Constitution, Scott told Tampa Mayor Bob Buckhorn that conventions and guns have co-existed since the nation's birth and would continue to do so during the four-day event beginning Aug. 27.

"It is unclear how disarming law abiding citizens would better protect them from the dangers and threats posed by those who would flout the law," the Republican governor said in a letter on Tuesday.

Local officials need Scott's permission to enact the temporary restrictions after state lawmakers last year passed a measure that prohibits local governments from adopting gun ordinances that are stricter than state law.

In a letter to Scott, Buckhorn said the Tampa City Council had banned a host of items from the area surrounding the convention facility, a list that includes water guns, poles and pieces of wood.

"One noticeable item missing from the city's temporary ordinance is firearms," Buckhorn wrote. "In the potentially contentious environment surrounding the RNC, a firearm unnecessarily increases the threat of imminent harm and injury to the residents and visitors to the city."

Scott said he was confident law enforcement officials, who are expected to number nearly 4,000, would be able to protect the public without having to enforce a blanket gun ban.

That city officials have banned other items is irrelevant, he said.

Special operations delegates from 96 nations meet in Florida

Washington: Special operations delegates from 96 nations gathered this week in Tampa, Florida for a conference that U.S. Special Operations Command hosts every few years.

Navy Adm. William H. McRaven, Socom’s commander, and his counterparts from Australia and Colombia briefed the press on the final day of the international gathering.

The conference “is always a tremendous opportunity for us to get our partners, our allies, our friends from around the globe to come and interact with each other,” McRaven said, adding that this year’s theme was “Building the Global SOF Partnership.”

McRaven was joined by Maj. Gen. Peter Warwick Gilmore, Special Operations Commander Australia, and Brig. Gen. Juan Pablo Rodriguez Barragan, commander of the Colombian National Army’s Fifth Division.

All of the OWS commotion over the past year has made it clear that civil unrest can shut down cities.

Major conventions and meeting occur in cities.

Foreign or domestic fringe groups could be inclined to strike such events.

Wait this is happening in Florida? Clearly they are prepping for the zombie invasion.

I could be wrong, but I do not think the OWS group cares about the RNC convention? Ron Paul supporters do, however...I imagine that's who they may be anticipating.

If your cops are too badly trained and fat to deal with angry RP supporters then maybe they need better training instead of illegal military intervention.

if this was a special ops or special forces drill, I don't see why they'd be with privates.

one of the men in the video was introduced as Private.
he was australian, maybe it's different over there or something.

but I'd imagine that you'd be higher ranked than a private to be SF or SOps

It's hard to believe that they are having the Convention in Tampa in the dead of hurricane season. Don't they realize how bad these hurricanes can be down here! If there's a hurricane close to Tampa at the time of the Convention it will be absolute chaos!It's crazy to have it here.
