In looking for a medical reason for all of the bizarre behavior recently, I came across this article (March 2012):

It appears that a fly vector might be spreading an unknown parasite among children in Africa (Uganda). Symptoms are aimless wandering, gnawing, and violent behavior (not unlike the Miami Cannibal). The disease is preceded by nodding of the head.

A quote from tha article:
