The Bible is specific about the name and age of the people and that is how we get this age. True, however this only applies to human civilization, not the age of the Earth. Read Gen. 1.1 & 1.2 in the original Hebrew. Also check on what Jewish thinkers in the 1st century & and 10th century thought the age of the Universe was from a study of Scripture. The answer is surprisingly close to what scientists today think 15 billion years
