I'll always remember when I was in 9th grade, and a classmate of mine won a perfect attendance award at the end of the year.

I agree, it's probably due to...mommy can't miss work so the kid has to go regardless of how sick they are.

Anyway, I worked at a place that gave out these awards and yes, the guy who won the award every year was the guy who came to work sick and spread it to the rest of us. Still makes me wanna slug him.

I can guarantee you. A teacher I knew had a daughter who got a perfect attendence award for never missing a day of school from the day she started school to 7th grade. I was even thinking, she must have gotten sick with something besides mild colds during that time unless she only got sick over the summer.

Yup I got perfect attendance in 4th grade my mom forced me to go to school sick but I don't remember being sick sick.

I got perfect attendance in 5th grade and 8th grade. Just didn't get sick those years. I dunno, always was a pretty healthy kid. I still don't get sick very often. It's my first year for seasonal allergies though, not very fun.

If your child has a fever or has something very contagious (pink eye, chicken pox), yes they stay at home. Other than that, cowboy up.

can I say the reason we give the Perfect Attendance award is because you actually NEED the student sitting in a classroom so that he can be taught. I can't teach you if you and your family decide to go to Disneyland...or you stayed up way too late the night before and couldn't wake up to go to school...or you just don't feel like it....seriously. Everyone here takes things so OUT OF CONTEXT...it's a fucking award...that's all.

We are a healthy family, my kids all have perfect attendance...the occasional sniffle is a pussy excuse to stay home...how else do you build a powerful immune system if you aren't exposed to the things you want to fight off?

Which is why I want year around school...they aren't being properly prepared for real life with three months off, and they spend a couple months reviewing the year before because they lost ground with playing video games all summer...

I had perfect attendance from 7th to 12th grade. Just never was sick. No big deal!

I don't care how well you feed your kids, or how much holy water you shoot up their noses or whatever, most kids will get a nasty illness at least once a year. Even a healthy immune system cannot always deflect new bugs.

I thought every idiot knew rest helps cure sickness. I'm not talking about "sniffles", if it causes a fever you should be in bed, asleep.

Maybe it's because you're a shitty parent for letting your kid play video games when they should be confined to bed? If they're actually sick, they should be sleeping it off. If I was too sick to go to school I was too sick to play video games, and that was enforced. Called "parenting", assholes. So even as a young child, I could responsibly decide when I needed a sick day.

i got perfect attendance all four years... the reason was because if you missed sports practice the coach made you roll aka roll on the ground till you throw up. the other reason is because being home with my stepmom does not sound fun. I went to school with a cold all the time

That's pretty much how I feel about it. Some parents have the rule that their child must have a fever before they keep them home. Of course, a lot of it has to do with moms having to go to work. I was lucky to be home with my kids and I let them stay home if they weren't feeling well. I know they faked it a few times, but what adult hasn't done that too? Well, okay, maybe not everybody, but I did. I would hate to think I forced my child to go to school feeling really sick and it does infect other kids. I feel the same way about adults who work in public infecting everybody, but they need their jobs so they go in sick. Employers and schools should be more looser on letting people have sick time, but that's not how it is.

So why should someone get an award for being healthy?

My neighbor is obsessed with her kids having perfect attendance. She told me she sends them to school even if sick and lets the school call her to pick them up after attendance has been taken.

maybe they get sick on the weekends or not sick at all....i hardly ever get sick....maybe once evry 2 years

My kids have gotten them a few times. I don't send my kids to school sick. There have been a few years in there where they didn't get sick.

I do not agree. I have gotten perfect attendance for 6 years. That streak ended today actually, i got the flu. Anywho, i usually only got sick on the weekends or just had the common cold, and that want bad enough to stay home. Or i would get sick after school and feel better by morning. My parents have never forced me to go to school, it was my choice sorry, random pic. Merry Christmas!
