COREXIT: THE MOST LETHAL OF 'OIL DISPERSANTS' NOW USED IN TAURANGA
The news that NZ has opted to use the deadly Corexit dispersant in the Tauranga Port oil spill travelled like wildfire around the internet environmental activist community yesterday. That NZ would use this dispersant which has been banned in eighteen countries and has caused huge controvesy in the US was greeted with shock and horror by many eco activists who have been watching and documenting the destruction it has caused in the Gulf of Mexico.

Marine toxicologist Riki Ott who has worked tirelessly to stop Corexit in the GoM says Corexit can cause havoc in a person’s body and lead to death. Toxicologists agree that Corexit ruptures red blood cells, causes internal bleeding, allows crude oil to penetrate into the cells and into every organ system.
Not only is Corexit highly toxic, experts say it is less effective than other dispersants, and has actually worsened the damage caused by the oil spill. At the beginning of the Corexit debate in the GoM, Toxicologist Dr. Susan Shaw, Founder and Director of the Marine Environmental Research Institute went diving into the oil spill to examine the chemicals present.
Dr.Shaw told CNN "I can tell you what happens to people, because I was in the oil". She said she saw shrimpers throwing their nets into water, and water from the nets splashing on their skin. One of these men, she said, experienced a headache that lasted three weeks. He had heart palpations, muscle spasm and bleeding from the rectum."And", she said,"That’s what Corexit does, it ruptures red blood cells, causes internal bleeding and liver and kidney damage". She said that combined with oil Corexit is even more toxic and goes right through skin. That the solvents penetrate skin taking oil into the cells and organs and this stuff is toxic to every organ system in the body.
According to John Sheffield a chemist with Alabaster, a Texan company specialising in bio remedial products, the oil industry is involved in a cover up of environmentally friendly products. This is to maintain a monopoly on thier own products and to control the actual amount of "clean up" restoration or remediation they must do. He says "The products the oil industry use (Corexit dispersant and booms) are made from petroleum. When the public sees them pouring the toxic dispersant Corexit into the spill, what they see is similer to watching an arsonist pour gas onto a fire, only from an environmental perspective". Corexit dispersant, he says,is a hydrocarbon petroleum product just like paint thinner, lighter fluid, anti freeze or kerosene.
Mr Sheffield says Corexit dispersants are the only solution the oil industry allows. The industry made money off Corexit as they poured it into the Gulf where it increased the contamination and disolved the pollution to hide it. The main ingredient in Corexit is an Exxon solvant line called Norpar. It is basically an oil industry waste product repackaged for sale. It was made by the oil industry for the oil industry to deal with (hide) it's own issue and it is an extreamly outdated and hazardous answer. Mr Sheffield says "Even our own EPA data ranks Corexit as being 20 times more toxic, and far less effective than other dispersants."
Cleanup workers exposed to Corexit in the GoM experienced identical symptoms to those of the shrimper in Dr Shaw's report. At the height of the Corexit debate in the GoM, CNN reported that all workers using Corexit in the Exxon Alaskain oil spill of 1989 had died. It is not only people working and living close to the spill in the Gulf who have been affected, there has been an epidemic of illness among residents and many reports of marine wildlife death. Dolphins and birds washing up bleeding as well as other dead ocean life.
This has been on going. Another report on Corexit states that the active ingredient of the toxic chemical dispersant, which is up to 60% by volume, is a neurotoxin pesticide that is acutely toxic to both human and aquatic life, causes cancer and may cause reproductive side effects. It says the human health hazards are chronic. In fact the neurotoxin pesticide that is lethal to 50% of life in concentrations as little as 2.6 parts per million has been banned for use in the UK since 1998 because it failed the UK “Rocky shore test” which assures that the dispersant does not cause a “significant deleterious ecological change” or to put that in layman’s terms it can kill off the entire food chain. Corexit has also earned the highest EPA warning label for toxicity...

CALLING FOR AN INTERNATIONAL OUT CRY over the crime of using the highly toxic oil dispersant, COREXIT, in the pristine waters of NEW ZEALAND which is a nation that prides itself in being one of the most pollution free areas of the world.
NEW ZEALAND'S clean green, 100% pure image is fast becoming a thing of the past as the multi national corporations are poising them selves to rape our nations of its resources and pollute the land as it bulldozes its way over the countries citizens and our rights to live in peace without molestation.
LET THE WORLD KNOW OF THIS CRIME ~ MAKE IT VIRAL ~ STOP COREXIT FROM KILLING NEW ZEALAND !! STOP THE OIL DRILLING IN NEW ZEALAND !! STAND WITH US AGAINST THE CORPORATIONS !!!
It is said "A little bit of leaven spoils the whole lump" and so it is that a little bit of COREXIT mixed with the oil spoils the pristine waters of New Zealand, poisoning a vast area of the coast of the North Island. Numerous whales, seals, penguins, birds and fish are already being found washed up from the highly toxic mix of oil and COREXIT dispersant. Crayfish have been seen walking out of the water onto the beaches, which is unheard off. Many people all over the area are becoming sick from breathing in the volatile Gas vapours being emitted from the sea. Flu like symptoms, nausea, headaches, breathing difficulties, rashes are all signs of chemical poisoning, but many have there doctors say it is just the common flu. All the waterways around the city have been deemed contaminated from this toxic mess and where you find oil no doubt there too will the COREXIT be.

The "flag of convienience" ship, MV Rena, is still stricken upon the reef about 15km off the coast of the city and could break up at any time, spilling many more tons of oil, we pray this does not happen, and we also implore that NO MORE COREXIT BE USED, it is a known KILLER to all that lives and breaths for miles around !!! The main ingredients of Corexit 9527 is 2-Butoxyethanol which can make up to 60% of the dispersant and is known to be toxic to blood, kidneys, liver, and the central nervous system. 2-Butoxyethanol is also known to cause cancer, birth defects and has been found to also cause genetic mutations. Corexit is listed as an environmental hazardous material, it contains Arsenic, Cadmium, Chromium, Mercury, and Cyanide. Although MNZ have stated they are using COREXIT 9500, we found that it was the 9527 listed as in stock ready for use by the Maritime Saftey Authority with no mention of COREXIT 9500 availiable at all.

The New Zealand population has been told through the public news media that the chemical dispersant called COREXIT is just like dish washing liquid, and actually safer than dish washing liquid and your laundry powder, and this was stated by their Enviroment Minister, Nick Smith on numerous occasions. According to Maritime NZ, the Corexit being used on the Rena spillage “has been widely tested and has very low toxicity” and say it is 10-20 per cent less toxic than dishwashing liquid and the ingredients that make up the dispersant are in most shampoos. MNZ is blaming any toxicity on the oil, not the dispersant, but a fact sheet for medical practitioners tells a completely different story. It is a very bold statement to make and to liken this toxin to dish wash liquid, with all the documentation that is avaliable now since its recent, and highly controversial use in the Gulf of Mexico, and is just like what happened in the Gulf of Mexico, which you can see from this video link, New Zealanders have been lied to about the dangers of COREXIT, this is very clear and obvious. To tell the nation that this chemical is safer than dishwash liquid is a crime ... is this criminal negligence ? Are they really that incompetent ?? Or do these people have no conscience ??? Do they lie on purpose ?? Is there a sinister agenda ?? The long term ill effects of the chemical dispersant COREXIT will be seen and is very well documented... there is mounting evidence that this is a criminal act. These people behind this lethal poison are killing the earth and all that lives upon it !!! The water systems of the earth are the very life blood of the earth and all that lives upon it, and once you poison all the water systems of an area you poison and start killing everything upon the land which relies upon it. With a fundermental understanding of how intimately connected the sea is with the land, one realises that if the oceans are poisoned then so is the rain and then also the land and then the ground water supplies also.

THESE CRIMINALS NEED TO BE STOPPED !!!

The CONTROVERSY of COREXIT oil Dispersants.

To say that COREXIT oil Dispersant is a safe product to use and less harmful than dishwashing detergent or Laundry powder as said by New Zealands Enviroment Minister, Nick Smith, is outrageous and a crime against the citizens of Tauranga. This is very far from the truth and it has been shown conclusively that it is infact a very volitile toxic chemical that can cause long term health issues from exposure and the accumulative result can have lethal results. The example of what took place in the Gulf of Mexico should be well noted by all New Zealanders. It started off with the citizens being told it was harmless as it has happened here, but people quickly awoke to the truth that they all were being poisoned. Please watch this video link where the media started to catch onto the truth about COREXIT.

Is Rena Carrying Yellowcake?
The transport of uranium ore concentrate (yellow cake) through New Zealand ports has been taking place for well over thirty years. Shipments have been stopping at Auckland, Tauranga, Napier and Nelson.

Yellow cake comes within the hazardous substances section of the Hazardous Substances and New Organisms Act 1996, and ERMA is meant to monitor all shipments through New Zealand.

The hazardous substance is shipped from Australia, which has 38% (714,000 tones) of the world's lowest-cost uranium (U3O8) resources. Yellow cake is mined at Olympic Dam in South Australia, Ranger Mine in Northern Territory Australia and Beverley Mine also in South Australia.

The yellow Cake is stowed within 20-foot ISO sea freight containers. The United Nations Number Shipping Name for these shipments is UN 2912, Radioactive Material, Low Specific Activity (LSA-1).

ERMA documentation shows three companies mining uranium in Australia got permission in 2010 to regularly route their products via NZ until the end of 2014. Among them is Energy Resources of Australia, which told ERMA its shipments could be as much as 750 tonnes.

Australia stopped reporting its uranium destinations by country in 2009. The latest ASNO Annual Report only shows data by continent. Apparently individual country information is not provided in order to protect commercial confidentiality. This graph shows the extent of Australia's uranium exports up to 2009, when a total of 9378 metric tonnes of uranium was exported.

Despite many requests by those concerned, National has not released the inventory showing exactly what Rena is carrying.

According to this article, Adelaide and Darwin are the only two ports in Australia that allow the export of uranium oxide. Although the ship has not recently visited Adelaide or Darwin, we cannot be sure that the MV Rena is not carrying radioactive yellow cake, being that Melbourne's port is close to the Olympic Dam and Beverly mines. The Rena is listed as carrying a cargo (70), which I believe means a category Hazard A (Major) cargo.

Below is a list of recent GPS locations the Rena visited.

Blowout in Gulf of Mexico: Wellhead releasing ‘unknown product’ into water off Louisiana coast (MAP)
 Quoting: Earth Cries

Betcha this is what it is as the key word was 'unlikely' fueled by the current ocean weather events and water temps rising it's a toxic death bloom that wasn't supposed to ever surface.
ELE? of the day-Why did the EPA allow BP to disperse Corexit in such vast amounts without ever examining it's effects on marine life?
The containment and absorbent boom that BP is deploying around beaches and marshes—largely ineffectively—is designed to do just that: contain and absorb oil. But the Corexit dispersant BP has flooded onto the leaking wellhead 5,000 feet down, and sprayed from the air onto the surface—some 2 million gallons in total—is designed to break up the oil. "Which one is it?" asks Safina. "Do you want to contain it or disperse it? It makes absolutely no sense to be doing both. Let's face it, with pollution, you count your lucky stars if you have what's called point-source pollution, that is, a single identifiable localized source of pollution, like the Deepwater Horizon. So what's BP doing with that? They're turning it into the worst pollution nightmare of them all: non-point-source pollution."

That's because untreated oil quickly rises to the surface, where it can be skimmed with relative ease. But it becomes a submerged plume, unlikely to ever float to the surface, and destined to migrate through underwater currents to the entire Gulf basin and eventually the North Atlantic. "Oil is toxic to most life," says Steiner. "And Corexit is toxic to most life. But the most toxic of all is oil that's been treated with Corexit. Plus, dispersants may well kill the ocean's first line of defense against oil: the natural microbes that break oil down for other microbes to eat." The EPA has never seriously examined Corexit's effects on marine life (see "Bad Breakup"). Now it'll get the biggest and baddest field experiment of all time, as the flora and fauna of the shallows and the deep scattering layer collide with the dispersed plumes.
