This is the second time I arrive sick with digestion problems after a flight. I wonder if the above procedure has something to do with it, or only the stale food at the airport bistro is to blame?
What is that white stuff anyway? Is there someone who can tell me?

apparently everyone is ok with white powder being put on their hands, OP...

nobody seems to think this is abnormal.. OR they are too stupid to have any kind of opinion on it.

bump for truth about the white powder.

checking for explosives? as if people are assembling bombs outside before they get on flights.. get real. wtf.

and not only is the above being considered as a possibility, but on top of it, they are going to catch the mentioned individual by "randomly" selecting them in line and dusting them with powder. WEIRD.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 15044657

Exactly. I don't agree with this TSA nonsense at all, but this random crap is just that, crap. What if the next person in line had some kind of residue or whatever and they didn't test them? It makes no sense. If I were genuinely worried, I'd be testing everyone, not randomly testing people. Just goes to show that this is all a farce IMO. It's not about being worried people may be up to something, it's a way to take away our rights, otherwise they'd be testing everyone.

Sorry you had to go through that EG. I realize you couldn't avoid flying. I won't fly though, not with all this nonsense going on. Plus I have a young kid, I'd come unglued if TSA touched my kid, so I'd prefer to drive instead.

If u have to fly for work, then fine. But the others who fly have 'accepted' TSA and now barry will take the police state to the next level. I'm out in a semi rural location and will feel little impact out here but the rest of u get what u deserve.

What a strange ordeal. If they're smearing it on your body, your hands, there should be a a better if not full disclosure of what the hell they're putting you through, you should have that right. Hope you feel better OP.

No, they DO HAVE watch lists, and everybody that flies is referenced against these lists. You were on this list most likely. The "randomly selected" bit is a lie they use.

I was told this by an individual that helped design the security protocol to help deal with this after 9/11.

I also have a family member that is close to being the head of the TSA at DFW airport.

No kidding, and please don't show up at my door MIB.

Re: At airport security randomly selected and white crap smeared on hands
When I read the title my first thought was when someone had to deliver some luggage a guest (here at the hotel I work at) lost. The person from the Airport brought the luggage, I then took it to the guest's room and set it outside their door. Later I noticed something that smelled like feces on my hand... the same hand I used to carry the suitcase upstairs. So I don't know what was going on with (one of?) the person/s that handled that luggage, but it couldn't have been good.

White powder? Maybe it's for the gloves they use to grope and fondle passengers... er, I mean, potential terrorists.

I guess that applies for people who were "randomly selected" to be patted down as well? Why would my dad be on a watch list when he has gov't clearance at a very sensitive area? Sorry, I'm not getting into detail about where his clearance is at. I'm not trying to be a jerk or anything, it's not a big deal, I just don't like to run my mouth about other people's private life is all. Anyway, since he has clearance at this place, he certainly isn't a threat to security and therefore, certainly wouldn't be on a watch list, but yet he was randomly chosen for a pat down. Trust me, if he were a threat to the country, he'd not be able to make it through the gates. Since 9/11, this place is heavily guarded (it was before, but has been even more so since then). If he were a threat, like say a bomber, he'd be more of a threat there than he would on a plane.

I'm not trying to be funny, I'm genuinely asking. Since you have a family member who is close to being the head of TSA at DFW airport, I thought you may be able to shed some light on this.

Edited: to add.

White stuff on whose hands? Yours?
Is it powder?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 16735882

Yes, on mine...they say i was randomly selected. It is a powder, like baby powder. Then hold it under some light, I think. F*ck I dont remember clearly. The sheet they smeared with, that is to be put under the light

Maybe it's a powder that can detect if someone's hands have come in contact with explosives or drugs etc...why just the hands?

Find an article about how TSA is testing for gun powder residue and it doesn't involve any powder. Powder? Unknown chemicals on my hands? It doesn't happen anywhere else in the free world. For sure I won't be filing for a US Visa anytime soon.

Why didn't you wash your hands inmediately OP?

I was told that even the silliest things will put you on these lists. Sometimes it's just nationality. Sometimes it's whether or not you have a criminal record. Sometimes it's whether or not you've shoplifted, etc.

This is what I was told, but I do not know for sure how true it is anymore. He complained that these were just too generic of criteria, and EVERYBODY would become a suspect.

I don't know how they do it anymore. He once told me a story about FBI showing up at his place of work at AA. Scared him bonkerless.

This was not the individual involved with the TSA, but the other one.

Actually, I probably shouldn't be telling you this.

i had this happen to me once as well. it's been a long time ago, tho, probably 7-10 years ago and i was merely picking someone up at the airport. the security guy asked me to step aside, said i was 'randomly' selected and then had me hold my hands out while he rubbed a white circle-shaped type of paper around on them. he also did it to the straps on my purse. i don't recall any powder, just the papery thing.

it's been so long ago all i remember is him reassuring me that i was randomly selected and that it was "a new thing" they were doing. it weirded me out then and it still makes me a little grumpy now bc i've always thought he must have thought i looked like a terrorist or something!

No...This test is for when you bring your bottle of baby powder with you....this test kit will take a sample from your baby powder bottle and test it to make sure it's not an explosive powder...I have not seen them use the "wipe your hands with powder test" but I will ask when I go to work and see the TSA nazies.
