At airport security randomly selected and white crap smeared on hands

I only flew once & it was years ago..maybe, someone who has flown recently may know..

Yes, on mine...they say i was randomly selected. It is a powder, like baby powder. Then hold it under some light, I think. F*ck I dont remember clearly. The sheet they smeared with, that is to be put under the light

Maybe it's a powder that can detect if someone's hands have come in contact with explosives or drugs etc...why just the hands?

Find an article about how TSA is testing for gun powder residue and it doesn't involve any powder. Powder? Unknown chemicals on my hands? It doesn't happen anywhere else in the free world. For sure I won't be filing for a US Visa anytime soon.

and not only is the above being considered as a possibility, but on top of it, they are going to catch the mentioned individual by "randomly" selecting them in line and dusting them with powder. WEIRD.

Checking for GS/explosive residue maybe? I have had that done but it was a spongy thing they used.

Btw they wiped my hand off right next, also I was washing hands in the next restroom. Most likely the ingredients of the powder is not public - security reasons, you know? - so it can be anything in there

I fly every week and have never seen anything like that -- although the airport food does suck and no telling what it could have done to your internals.

I did get hassled at the gate Friday night in Cleveland. The Cleveland cops and DHS were 'all over' the gate... double-checking passes and bags as people were having their passes scanned just before entering the jetway. I had never seen the cops standing and observing at a gate before -- and only two DHS employees ever show up for inspections -- this flight had two cops and 5 DHS employees.

For some reason the two DHS employees who were doing the checking decided to zero in on me -- one took my ID and boarding pass -- and then I felt a tug and another one was opening my backpack while it was still hung over my shoulder... and didn't say anything until I felt the tug and quickly turned around to see what was going on. AFTER she opened a couple of pockets -- both empty -- she gave up.

I was a little worried though... I brought back the 'rubber duck' that the hotel gives away for free -- they put it next to the tub and I bring it home for my kids to play with... but she didn't get that far into my backpack. Phew... could have been a little embarassing.

i had this happen to me once as well. it's been a long time ago, tho, probably 7-10 years ago and i was merely picking someone up at the airport. the security guy asked me to step aside, said i was 'randomly' selected and then had me hold my hands out while he rubbed a white circle-shaped type of paper around on them. he also did it to the straps on my purse. i don't recall any powder, just the papery thing.

it's been so long ago all i remember is him reassuring me that i was randomly selected and that it was "a new thing" they were doing. it weirded me out then and it still makes me a little grumpy now bc i've always thought he must have thought i looked like a terrorist or something!
