Glad that no one asked you for advice on anything important then. You ignorant dipshit. Ive had them all my life and have researched it all my life. Im 35. Ive tried more things thatn have been suggested here. Its a goddamned fact. There is no remedy, the suggestions on this thred are idiotic. Sorry OP. I really am. How severe are they? If they are mild, you can learn to try to hide them to some degree when you are worried that you are being watched. But thats it im afraid. There is still hope.. My best friend who is also 35 has also had ticks his whole life.. Through Tao breathing and relaxation techniques. Plus stretching exercises. Plus a little pot now and again. He can control them to the point they disappear. When he stops they come back though.. He reckons a few hours a few times a week.. He decides when he needs to.. It may be neurological but it can be controlled with the mind.. Make sure your son eats enough potassium and sodium in his diet also.. Ie, bananas and salt! Good luck.. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 1396050 Canada 06/03/2012 07:06 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | What do you mean by neurological, is it all in the brain controlling his muscle reflexes. If it is neurological is it something that he was injected with or is it hereditary. Is it something that he will out grow or does he need some kind of medical attention. He plays baseball and the past month he has been gripping and bending his fingers in a very awkward way while he swings the bat. He is still a great athlete, but I think it is distracting him. My fiance has tourette's. t is hereditary, but skips a generation, so look to your son's grandparents. It doesnt always present the same. for women it is more like OCD. Plus in mild cases it disappears, so his grandparents may seem just fine now, but perhaps as a child? Also, try not to focus on "fixing" him. The tics will gradually subside and likely be gone by his early twenties. My fiance now only has some mild verbal tics, usually only when he eats. It is more adorable than annoying or disruptive. What I would suggest is just be super supportive and nurturing. People with Tourette's often suffer from anxiety or depression or paranoia. These silent symptoms can easily go unnoticed by parents, but do the real damage. My fiance still has lingering anxiety. And he spent many years alone with few friends and no girlfriends. When I met him he was still silent, but boy did I wear him down. He is now quite a happy fellow. But as for the tics, I wouldnt medicate your son unless they were really bothersome or offensive. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 8017210 United States 06/03/2012 07:35 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | My daughter is and 7 and has a very mild case of tourettes. We took her to the neurologist and and he said she is a 1 out of 10 on the spectrum of severity and would probably grow out of it. I noticed the tics seem to come and go...right now she has no signs of them. A big concern for us was her socially and how other kids would react to the strange body movements. We were counseled to never make the child feel bad and encourage them to know to to respond if somebody points them out. We stress that it's normal for her and it there is nothing really wrong with her. She deals with it well. I often wonder how this happened. I asked the doctor if taking prescription depression medication caused this, but the doctor stated there was no historical research to back that claim up. Nobody in either side of the family has ever had this so I really don't know. Good luck. |

Over the past year or so my 7 year old son has had different tics. Now he is flexing his fingers, it was been bending his neck, squinting etc.., it seems to change every couple of weeks. We eat organic and my kids are not to eat High Fructose Corn Syrup. I am wondering what causes this, is it hereditary or GMO related? We quit vaccinating him after his first round of shots. Other than his tics he is very smart and athletic. I am wondering if anyone else has had his problem with their children? Do they outgrow it or is there a homeopathic remedy that can help cure it? A critical need exists to halt the alarming declines in the world’s supply of topsoil and to increase the nutritional values of our food. To maintain good health, humans need good food with both vitamins and minerals. According to the USDA, Americans lack the minerals, calcium, magnesium, potassium, and the vitamins A, C, D, and E. Without needed minerals and vitamins, research has shown that people develop chronic health conditions. More and more nutritional studies have linked many of today’s most prevalent disease to nutritional deficiencies. Changes in the Nutritional Content of Beef and Chicken.... Nutritional research has revealed the critical inter-relationship between vitamins and minerals and optimum health. Both vitamins and minerals are needed to maintain human health. We obtain them by eating food from plants and animals. Deaths from Heart Disease.... Minerals may be more vital to physical and mental health than vitamins. Minerals assist the body in a multitude of biochemical processes. Minerals are inorganic compounds found in the soil. Foods grown in soil depleted of minerals do not contain the minerals needed to sustain human health. Magnesium User ID: 1449133 Australia 06/03/2012 12:01 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | You mentioned sports and athletic in more than one post. I would want to eliminate dehydration and salt issues. E.g eat bananas daily for potassium, magnesium orotate supplement which has high absorption, and sea salt, not losalt, real seasalt. it contains loads of great minerals. Magnesium is very important for huge numbers of nerve related functions. Do you know what makes non fizzy sports drinks taste so good ? They contain salt! which is what your body craves after a workout. Unfortunately it's also loaded with sugar and the salt is basic sodium chloride, not a sea salt rich in minerals. Go with this for several weeks but keep in mind that a full check with your doc is advisable because tics could indicate other underlying causes. Im sure you could make a smoothy recipe for this. Banana, magnesium orotate, quarter teaspoon sea salt and honey to balance the salt taste, half cup of milk, scoop of protein powder, half teaspoon cocoa powder, all slapped into a blender. One of these every morning instead of sugar cereal sounds great to me. |

Choline It's a "natural" vitamin product. Can be found at most vitamin stores and easily online. It's fairly inexpensive. It helps to give a synergistic effect to the brain and memory as well as enhance and RELAX the nervous system. It's also good for a mild calming effect, like a very, very mild sedative. PLEASE consider it. Look it up. I highly recommend it as a natural alternative for your son's condition. Where is Six Six Six and what did you do with her? He may need more healthy fats in his diet or even to go ketogenic. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 4714791 What do doctors say? We have not been to a Dr. yet. I know they would probably put him on a medication that would produce another side effect anyway. My ex-husband had mild Tourette's, sounds like your son. He didn't have verbal yelling but had tics, grunts, twitches, etc. Even in his sleep, I felt so bad for him, he never ever complained or played the victim but refused to go into a library or movie theater with me and I know it's because he was self-conscious of the small sounds he made. He was put on Haldol from the time he was 10 until he was 18. So you are wise to not go to a traditional medical doctor yet. Haldol is a hardcore anti-psychotic and it makes me ill that they gave it to this poor little boy; because of that drug he slept all through school and eventually got kicked out of school, one ignorant teacher called him retarded in front of the other kids. This was back in the 60s when Tourette's was less well-known. Actually he was very intelligent and also a great baseball player like your son. Sports seem to help. During our marriage he smoked pot daily and it really helped. When he ran out he'd get irritable and had anger issues and I don't know how much of it was prior damage from the years of Haldol on a developing child's brain, how much was the Tourette's, etc. It was hereditary from his mother. When he found out he had a 12-year-old son he hadn't known about, his first question to the boy's mother was if he had inherited the tics. It's a really rough problem because so many other people are not kind or understanding. |

I was diagnosed with Tourette's when I was a kid, and medicated for it for a while. Eventually I told my parents I didn't want to take anything anymore, and they respected that. I had to get a second opinion from another neurologist saying I didn't have Tourette's before I could join the Navy. It's good to be open-minded, just don't let your brain fall out. |

Most alternative therapies work by relieving stress so you will just have to try a few out and find out which is most helpful and practical for your son. I would try to keep any of the associated superstitious nonsense that goes along side of many of these therapies away from your son's ears. You could end up upsetting him and making more stressed if he thinks that he is possessed or is given some unhelpful label. |
