President Obama shamelessly lied about the attacks in Libya during the debate Tuesday night. He insisted that he and his administration had condemned them as terrorist attacks consistently since the day after the attack, and that he would not allow the deaths of our Ambassador and three other Americans to be used as a political football.

Anyone can read his Sept. 12 Rose Garden comments where he mentions "acts of terror," once, but it is not in reference to the Libyan attack. For the better part of a week, he and his administration portrayed this as a spontaneous uprising over a YouTube video. His U.N. ambassador went on the political news talk shows to say the same and Obama avoided referring to it as a terrorist act both in front of the U.N. and on the TV show "Live."

Why did he do this and why does it matter? It was to hide the fact that the U.S. embassy in Libya, in Libya of all places, did not have a Marine detachment and that Obama had not attended face-to-face intelligence briefings for the week leading up to Sept. 11, of all days that terrorists would most want to attack us.

This was a "Carter moment" for the president and he has used all of his powers to cover it up and talk around it until after election day. All Americans, regardless of political party, should be incensed at this crass election politicking by the president on such a sacred subject.
