4.0 EARTH QUAKE - Hawaii (Downgraded 3.5) Now Multiple Quakes.

Better hope nothing falls off and makes a big splash.

They started about a year ago at 1.x and 2.x. I have notice a few 3.x quakes recently. Now a 4... what does that tell you?

Yes, I've noticed alot of 1.0 - 2.5 range quakes hitting Hawaii frequently. This one seemed to jump out a bit, very close to the surface.

A 1.8 foreshock quake hit about 17 minutes earlier there as well.

Hawaii seems very unstable of late. I wonder about the status of their volanoes.

Yeah, sorry about that... the USGS quake site I visit (linked) has the quake listed on June 5th, Tuesday. Still 2 hours away from midnight here east coast USA. Strange.

Any info direct from Hawaii would be appreciated. As this quake was super shallow. I wonder if there was any structual damage?

when you think about it, HOW can they register a quake INITIALLY as a quake FIVE times stronger than what it 'really' was?

anyway, the fact that quake happened WHERE it did, as strong as it did, as shallow as it did, is OMINOUS as fuck.

The fact that they do this so often with most quakes, they are simply manipulating the numbers to downplay the seriousness of what is going on worldwide. DAMAGE CONTROL.

The proof of this, is that they RARELY ever downgrade small quakes. The bigger ones, they almost always decrease the number.

And yeah, these quakes seem to be getting more frequent and powerful and occuring in diverse places.

Not a good sign.

Past 24 hours at Kilauea summit: The summit tiltmeters recorded continued DI inflation and lava level rise. The most recent (preliminary) sulfur dioxide emission rate measurement was 800 tonnes/day on May 31, 2012. Small amounts of ash-sized tephra and Pele's hair were carried out of the vent in the plume and deposited on nearby surfaces.

The GPS network recorded weak extension overall for the past few months with superimposed contraction and extension fluctuations corresponding to DI tilt events. Seismic tremor levels were generally low, decreasing from a peak around 11 am yesterday. Thirteen earthquakes were strong enough to be located beneath Kilauea volcano: 3 within the upper east rift, 2 in the vicinity of the southwest rift zone, and 8 on south flank faults.

not enough people are aware though. the difference between a 3.5 and a 4 is HUGE. really, it is. HOW can an error like that be made?

it's the difference between 2.7 metric tons of TNT and 15 tons of TNT, at 500 metres depth.

as you said, you always see these downgrades. fact is, where this quake happened is a very vulnerable area for huge landslips into the ocean, and possible mega tsunami.

faced with that, you can understand the downplaying?

If you read the Kilauea volcano link above, the volcano has been upgraded to orange level and has a lava rise swell in it's cauldren.

What is the absolute worst that could happen there ? If Kilauea erupts and spews out huge amounts of lava ?

Could we see the creation of a new island ?

Where could potential DOOM come from ?

A large majority of the people there could DIE.

Or be forced to evacuate from the island and lose their homes and businesses.

I didn't say that ! I just asked where would the doom come from that's all !

Since most people don't live on that part of the island and usually lava goes towards the sea I thought maybe it wouldn't be such a disaster !

I'm sure for the local people it will have a major impact but no matter how powerful the eruption I don't think it can affect the other islands or the US mainland !
