Ken Wilber's huge philosophical tome Sex, Ecology, and Spirituality changed my view about Spirituality. Wilber argued that spirituality (as opposed to religion) was something humanity has yet to develop and is a higher stage of development than rationality and science.

After reading that hideously huge book and thinking about it for a few years I came to the exact opposite conclusion: Spirituality is the mother of all scams.

Are you saying that spirituality as a belief system is a scam?

I'm saying that spirituality itself is a very bad misinterpretation of something entirely different that has its origin in sociobiology and physics.

In other words the phenomena that inspires religion and spirituality are real but they're not what people have so far interpreted them as.

I love X Files, but can't say it opened my mind "as a kid". I was 22 when my husband convinced me to start watching it with him. I had always flipped past the show on TV. I never knew what I was missing. September 11th initially opened my mind. X Files has definitely contributed to it though.

donnie darko. I developed panic attacks shortly after and then 9/11 happened. I was fucked up in my childhood.

Yeah I found Donnie Darko disturbing too.

Maybe not changed my worldview, but David Schwartz' "The Magic of Thinking Big" had a profound effect on me. It's the only self-help book I've ever read that isn't schlocky.
