What say you now pot addicts? The math is simple: 1 joint ~= 4 cigs according to this research regarding the tar contents and 5 in relation to the monoxide. Rarely people smoke 4-5 joints a day, often many cigarette smokers hit the 20 threshold. 5 times 4 makes an average pack of cigs. D'oh ! Except for the fact that there has never been even one documented case of cancer or other illness or death caused by cannabis. Also, it's not the tar in tobacco that causes cancer, it's the radiation from phosphate fertilizer, plus the sugar and other toxic additives in commercial cigarettes that are linked to cancer and death.
