How to get rid of fleas in carpet?
I have 2 dogs, and one of them got fleas from somewhere. Moved the dogs to another room. Used up 3 foggers, countless times vacuumed, even tried castor oil on newspaper, (didn't do nothing) but a few fleas are still around.

Do any of you have a surefire method to get rid all of them?

Borax sprinkled on all carpets and bedding every morning, let sit all day and vacuum off every night for ten days in a row.

Yeah, let the dogs back in the room after you put a really good flea medicine on them, like Advantage. Fleas jump back on dogs and flea killer will kill them within 12 hours. Don't waste your time with Frontline. Never works well for me.

Salt. Sprinkle salt on carpet. Vacuum it up after about 24 hours. If it's humid and melts - sprinkle carpet with baking soda and vacuum it up.

No fleas and cleanest carpet ever (with the baking soda).

Long story how I learned this - but it worked chuckle

plain old salt works quite well also.

we have three dogs and no fleas.

lime is also spread under the house.(was infested with fleas when we moved in)

bathing the animals often (minimum every nine days)if they are alllowed inside is also

crucial , tea tree oil and soap.

it takes a lot of work to remove an infestation, and once gone , you have to maintain

the flea free zone.

Like they already said BORAX, and sprinkle some outside too, there are fleas out there in the yard/walking places too. It really does work quickly.

Re: How to get rid of fleas in carpet?
DON'T flea bomb the house! It's a waste and all you get is poison everywhere. The fleas and eggs aren't laying out in the open. they're behind and under the furniture, along the baseboards, deep in the carpet, under couch cushions. All the places the flea bomb spray can't get to.

An exterminator actually uses less toxic chemicals than you buy in the store. The secret to their success is in the application. They know where the fleas and eggs are hiding and that's how they know where to safely and effectively apply the permethrin and pyrethum.

Don't get rid of the dog(s). People that say that garbage just don't get it. I think they're unfortunate. They're losing out on all that pure, unconditional love and friendship and all that stuff that animals offer us.

Re: How to get rid of fleas in carpet?
It is a seriously tedious process.

Get some Diatomaceous Earth from a feed store, Home Depot, or Walmart, or online. Be sure you get FOOD GRADE (sometimes referred to as human grade). Do NOT use the kind that is processed for pool filters as that can be very dangerous.

Sprinkle the diatomaceous earth powder around your home. It is very fine and fluffy and it's not good to breathe it in too much as it could irritate the lungs. It kills all insects including roaches, fleas, and bedbugs. Don't get any near your fish tank, not good for fish. Perfectly safe for mammals. Suggest you google on the process, I'm too tired to go into all the details. But it does work. Dam those fleas!

Another trick I came across is to wash your pets in a mild solution of water and white vinegar. The fleas don't like the vinegar smell. Worked great with my cats...

Oh yeah, the Borax works great too. And it's relatively safe.

When I had ants, I found where they were coming in and put some borax in an empty beer can with some honey. The ants carried the honey with the borax back to the queen and in a couple of days they were history. No heavy poisons were needed.

Throw an Advantix flea collar on the carpet of each room. Leave them there until the fleas are gone. Hope this helps.

it is the alteration of ph away from the narrow range (neutral) fleas like that stops them.

I have found this is more effective than flea chemicals.

Re: How to get rid of fleas in carpet?
Fleas seek the warmth of a body, so take an old lamp and lean it over a bowl of soapy water.

Take off the lampshade before you do this.

Bowl of water on the carpet, bare bulb over the bowl, try to make it so the bulb is about 3-5 inches above the water.

Do this at night when all lights in the house are out.

The way it works is the fleas are drawn to the heat of the bulb and when they try to jump onto it, they bounce off into the water and drown.

Old country remedy.

Try feeding garlic cloves to your dogs also, makes 'em taste bad to fleas.
