Borax

Look it up. You can get it in the laundry isle at walmart.
 Quoting: Nostril Domus

Yep. Borax. But don't buy it at Walmart if you can help it. Very simple solution.

Re: How to get rid of fleas in carpet?
OP,

Some of the people here have it half right. Sprinkle Boriac Acid (its in a powder form) all over your carpet. But DON'T VAC it up every day! Leave it for one week THEN VAC it up really good. The way B.A. works is it scratches the flea shell as they travel across the carpet and they dehydrate and die.

All the powder is kind of messy and some of it can it airborne but its the best way to kill the damn things.

Also, treat you dogs for fleas on a regular basis. Mine usually get fleas from the vet. I hate taking them there.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 16269683

Sprinkle it on and push it in with a broom. Wait a day and vacuum as usual.

This works. You shouldn't have to "treat" your dog.

Oh yeah, the Borax works great too. And it's relatively safe.

When I had ants, I found where they were coming in and put some borax in an empty beer can with some honey. The ants carried the honey with the borax back to the queen and in a couple of days they were history. No heavy poisons were needed.

I have 2 dogs, and one of them got fleas from somewhere. Moved the dogs to another room. Used up 3 foggers, countless times vacuumed, even tried castor oil on newspaper, (didn't do nothing) but a few fleas are still around.

Do any of you have a surefire method to get rid all of them?
 Quoting: emerald_glow

Sprinkle a lot of baking soda in the carpet especially at the baseboards where they go to lay eggs. The molecular structure of the baking soda slices and dices the flea, eggs, and larva. It won't harm your dog.

Put it under your sofa cushions too.

That's easy. Dogs are outside animals (natural habitat)

Inside animals include:
None.

That is all.

This really works.

Take a bunch of saucers, they should each be able to hold some water. Take an equal bunch of tapers (candles). Light the candles, drip some wax in the center of the saucer and use it fix the tapers to the saucers. Extinguish the flames for now.

Set the saucers around the room. Now pour a little water in each one, and add a couple of drops of dishwashing detergent (not the kind for dishwashers, the liquid one for washing dishes), this will break the surface tension of the water.

Light the candles, and turn off all the room lights.

The fleas are attracted to the heat and light of the candles, and will jump in the water and drown.

You'll have to repeat this in a couple of weeks, to take care of fleas that hatch from any eggs that were laid.

Spray Avon "skin so soft" all over smells nice keeps all bugs away and it works, google it.
I use this myself when its flea season, it makes wood floors slippy so use with caution.

Re: How to get rid of fleas in carpet?
Thanks for all the good advice, problem solved. The water in flat, white plate, what i tried, and it worked like a dream, even without the lamp/candle. They stay alive in the water for 10 hours, so best to flush them in the toilet, when the plates are full. I used 4 plates in an average size room, and moved them around.
Thank you GLP, I love you all!!!

Pets and Carpet do not mix.

It's fucking gross.

Remove your carpet and put in some cheap tiles... they got the peel and stick kind that rare really easy to install yourself.

Carpet in general is disgusting, but carpet and pets? health hazard.

Use a Borax & water solution in a carpet shampooer. (If you don't already own one, go buy a cheap one.)

Treat your dogs with a flea repellant, wait a few hours, vacuum and shampoo all your carpets. Vacuum and shampoo again a week later, using a Borax & water solution.

Re: How to get rid of fleas in carpet?
We have had dogs for years. The only working solution is to not have carpeting.

There are flea powders for carpet (we use these for area rugs). Sprinkle some on, let stand 15 minutes (it has to stand) and then vacuum up - do daily.

I use a broom to work the powder into the area rug we have - wait 20minutes, half hour - 8 hours day while I am work before vacuuming. These powders do come scented and have hair release and other wonder pet stuff.

While most of the sprays, powders and even bombs will kill the adult fleas, what they do not kill is the eggs. You have to continue to apply product daily for up two two weeks.

Eucalyptus under furniture (leaves and branches) helps to keep down the population of fleas.

You also have to dip the dogs and make certain you are using a product that kills eggs too - and the upholstered couch/chairs, the bed(s) that the dogs sleep (if it is your bed, then remove all the bedding and wash in hot, hot water).

Its a daily task for about 14 days to get them all.

Advantage is an easy solution - prevention being far more valuable than curing.

Re: How to get rid of fleas in carpet?
When you fog the fleas, you also fog yourself and your family. When the exterminator sprays poison to kill the fleas, a lot of that poison will wind up in your body. If you have pets, use Dr. Bronners magic soaps. Eucalyptus is what fleas hate most. They will still be in your home, but they will leave your pets alone if you use this product. You can find this product in any reputable health food store, and it is inexpensive.

I have read lots of posts of people plugging flea drops, which is very expensive. The problem is, fleas have developed an immunity to this poison. So you will not get rid of the fleas, but you will wind up killing your pet, as this poison is absorbed through the skin and destroys organs.

Re: How to get rid of fleas in carpet?
only thing that worked for me was to vacuum about 5x a day and throw the bags away outside the house.. do this for about a week and you should be good.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 9653504

That's alot of bags. Why not spay a papertowel/kleenex with a flea killer and suck it up into the vacuum? Then throw the ONE bag away when the entire process is over and done with... instead of everytime you vacuum.

Salt. It dries the eggs and fleas and kills them. Eventually the fleas are all gone.

Fleas seek the warmth of a body, so take an old lamp and lean it over a bowl of soapy water.

Put a few drops of pennyroyal oil in a spray bottle with water.

Spray lightly over the entire carpet area.

The fleas absolutely hate it. They will 100% leave.

I've done this and it works! I went from lots of flea bites to none.

The pennyroyal aroma will be gone in a day or two.

Re: How to get rid of fleas in carpet?
Revolution for dogs

Do not get so wound up into the carpet if the animals are on any upholstery and such even on hard surfaces the debris eggs will get. Bedding washing in the washing machines and dryers will not kill these.

Unless you do a genuine working removal of these parasites off the animals you will keep this up in spurts and cycles.

All fleas that jump onto those animals treated with Revolution are dead. The dogs are happy and they act as home flea killer as well....picking them up and killing them.

Unless they have messed up the Revolution vial treatments for dogs ....they work and they are worth the money.

Everything else is work clean up and treat normally when those things are in that larvae stage they actually penetrate down into the weave of fabrics even on sofas and such like needle worms.

They will penetrate much more than just carpet. Vets got home treatments also.

Push broom is good to work it in but one day is not enough. Gotta be left on for one Week. Back in the early 90's this is how Flea Busters used to do their jobs. It was very effective but they charged about $200 for a condo. In reality, you only need a couple of dollars worth of Boriac Acid to do the job. Save the $$ and do it yourself.

lol at all of the replies.

Easiest / Cheapest / Kill em dead method?

Lysol ... Don't know where I read it but Lysol makes fleas AND THEIR EGGS hemorrhage like crazy. Try it on an infested area ... you'll see. They literally bleed out ... don't know what's in lysol that does it but it's the shit ... even with bad flea problems. Mist the floors and any especially any furniture.

doomsol Lysol smells terrible to me but it works.
