We can go to the moon, split the atom and transverse time and space. There is graft, vice, cheating, lying and corruption in the highest echelons of almost ALL of our political, social and religious institutions...and some idiots actually think a ball game can't be "fixed" ???

and i gave you an example using the team you love to make a point. people have to distinguish between 'swings' and match fixing. not to say that match fixing is non existent.....

and OP if you are a spurs fan then you know that when spurs get on a run and get momentum they go on a lot of 14-0, 15-0 type runs. but it cant rain all the time right? so after the 14-0 run the opposition goes on a 7-0 run and its all of a sudden match fixing? people have to watch more sport.

sometimes in the second half when spurs are trailing they go to the parker duncan pick and roll (the one that wade and lebron should just fucking copy). sometimes when they run this to perfection and hit the open three point shooters or parker teardrop or duncan layup, the other team just crumbles because they have no answer for the time being. it happens. when they figure shit out or when the spurs eventually miss three shots and the other team makes three shots its not match fixing ffs :)

I'm not saying this game was rigged per se just in general. Ya I'm venting but there have been some many times where it is unbelievable, in most sports.

I'm simply here to see what others think. I will still enjoy the game and have the watchful eye!

they are fixed. between the betting, the advertising dollars etc. they've now learned that if they orchestrate games they make more money. notice all the large leads in NBA - someone's up by 20 points then all the sudden they start playing like shit and the other team makes a miraculous "comeback". In almost EVERY game now. Why? Point spreads for one. Also keeps people tuned in = ratings = more advertising $$$. The teams already know before the games who is winning it and they all do their acting job.

I kind of thought this about the 49ers loss to the NY giants in the NFC championship. The niners had that one player who made two key fumbles which handed the game to the Giants.

It just seemed too convenient for me. I wonder if they got to that player knowing he was a punt returner. You either offer the big bucks or threaten his family I suppose. It may well be very corrupt behind the scenes.

Bounty hunting for injuries is probably just the tip of the iceberg.

i feel you on the david stern,..thats funny actually....and thats closer to the truth of rigged sports... but his involvement has to do with a team (new orleans hornets) which was up for sale and was currently owned by the nba collectively,...he wanted to make sure that team could be sold to an individual owner and not by the league so he stepped in and called off trades and a few other things,...however with this being said he has that executive right as commishiner to do that and there is an actual clause giving him that power for the "betterment of the game" thats in sstone and can be looked at...

In the NBA, the superstar almost always gets the call in critical situations.

I saw Larry Byrd run over top of a player twice in one game at midcourt with no call either time.

Jordan got away with a hack on one end of the court and then a push off at the other end to make a dramatic shot to win the championship.

Wade pushed off against Dirk Nowitski when Miami won the championship several years ago in the final seconds. The ref called a foul on Dirk. That play was the difference in the final game.

great thread, i figuired out the magnet thing a few years ago, so easy to do, they could just reverse polarity of the magnets making the balls either go in the basket or bounce off the rim. so the same team could be hitting all their shots then they flip the switch upstairs and all of a sudden they go cold, and vice versa, its simple, easy, and undetectable.

Re: Fixing Games in the NFL, NBA, etc...Are there magnets in the balls!?!
Does anyone think sports entertainment is designed with predetermined plays and outcomes?  There are times where certain plays or game flows seem improbable and downright engineered.

Whether it is penalties, missed calls, phantom fouls, a player's lack of hustle or illadvised decisions, there are certain outcomes that appear to defy nature.  While I love watching sports and realize a lot of games may be pure and just, I simply cannot accept that all are clean and without some design.  Too much money at stake and games are pretty easy to manipulate for the ones who get paid.  It just all seems like an act. Where is the conspiracy here?

Pisses me off...sports used to seem more wholesome and real however it has probably been like this for awhile.
 Quoting: SASkeptic

man yall sure are retarded if you actually believe the games are rigged....

Then how come it is so much more prevalent in professional sports as opposed to college. And dont say because college athletes aren't professional athletes.

I played several sports through high school and still enjoy playing and watching. You really think it is all pure and clean?
 Quoting: SASkeptic

of course its not 100% clean, you hear about point shaving scandals from time time, and some refs that have been involved in fixing games, but usually when a ref is involved it has to do with betting the total...the total amounts scored for the game... they would call alot of fouls keeping b oth teams in the bonus meaning that every foul while in the bonus results in free throws...see Tim Donaghey,....very very rare. refs statistics are trcked and monitered.... these instnces are few and far between. im refer to the jack ass who says every athlete is an entertainer and know whos gonna win the game before hand and everybody goes along with it...thats some short bus mentality for real...
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 16119007

sounds like you take it personal. nothing short bus about it. how do you explain the Hornets getting the #1 draft pick? Just coincidence huh?

Re: Fixing Games in the NFL, NBA, etc...Are there magnets in the balls!?!
The point spread is not a prediction of the outcome of the event, it is to facilitate equal amounts of betting on both sides so that Vegas can make their 10 %. If there is a million dollars bet on both teams Vegas or the entity taking the wager automatically makes 100k regardless of the out come. So in theory the casino should have no interest in the outcome as long as there is equal action on both sides. When you place a wager you have to put up the 10% first. ie $110 to win $100.
I gamble all the time. About half the games are rigged. Many games finish nowhere near the point spread, however the other half do. On any given weekend in the NFL there is 70 to 150 million wagered per game, and that is just on the books in Vegas and various trackable wagering facilities. There are billions more wagered off the books. This money is not left to chance. Referees often where black and white, a reference to the black and white checkered Masonic floor, and the dark coexisting with light belief. Control. Baseball is the hardest to fix becaus the umpires. An not effec much of the game other than balls and strikes, and any inequality is fairly noticeable. In the early 1900's it was easier to buy Players, hence the 1919 blacksox. Now with huge contracts it's harder to get players to risk that. Pete rose was the last real controlled effort by mafia influence to control baseball. It remains the purest of the sports, but is. It immune to influence from time to time, just harder to do. Basketball is the easiest to fix, and there is a long history of this in college and the pros. A famous incident in college basketball is from Arizona st in the early 90's. Mob people working through campus agents influencing players. The star player for Arizona state score a career high the first time he threw a game and intentionally lost by less than the spread. Said it was the easiest thing he ever did. Eventually the numbers didn't add up in Vegas and thy got busted. The numbers never lie, and any strange out of the ordinary wins are scrutinized by professionals. Michael Jordan was a notorious gambler, and there are rumors his father was murdered over gambling debts. Donahey was the very tip of the iceberg. The NBA fixes the most events, just because they have a longer schedule than the NFL. Look at the ownership of these teams. Same child raping pedophiles that run entertainment and politics. It's no different. You have ex Players working the commentator booth reenforcing the con. Why do you see a picture of bob Kraft owner of the new England patriots, shaking hands with Vladimir Putin while Rupert Murdoch stands behind them. These people are liars and decievers. Of course shit is rigged.

I wouldnt say its rigged, there are teams they want to advance and certain matchups they want to pull ratings so they do give certain teams an advantage but only to a point, so the players
do decide it.

As a Mavs fan the 06 Finals were rigged and it was obvious even Phil Jackson commented on it, I dont think they will ever risk having it so one sided again or people will stop watching
