Also, one kid lost an eye!!! When I arrived in Montreal there were 300k people out from EVERY background imaginable. This is not just a student thing anymore.

Once I saw the look of hate/evil in the eyes of police I knew that they would attack. They are just itching for a fight. It's madness!!

The rule of law is out the window! Also, the protesters are %99 peaceful. I cannot stress this enough.

Last I knew Canada had an unemployment rate of 7.3% which probably means someone is lying.

Does Canada have 99 weekers or were they all sent to reeducation camps. Its obvious the global recession includes Canada... and people aren't in the streets because they're happy.

The people of Quebec, mostly are just barely getting by. But they are still warm, caring and beautiful. When our accredited news crew was attacked by the police without justification, the crowd saved us and gave us first aid.

They want a future, they want access to education, they want a better world for their children!!

Personally, I think formal education is what's led to the downfall of our society. Education in general creates two classes of people. Those who CAN DO and HAVE THE MONEY, and those who CAN'T DO, and DON'T HAVE THE MONEY. Education keeps the wealth and power away from the common man, by introducing more complicated technology, and more complicated means of conducting business, hiring processes, more complicated laws, these factors all influence how we interact with each other.

Those who have severe learning disabilities, attention problems, or are "just plain dumb," never get an education and are stuck living on insufficient government handouts, or are being exploited in low-income jobs, and never have the opportunity to make a better life for themselves.

There are also those who are really intelligent, but lack the financial backing to complete a educational degree. These people are also severely underemployed, and suffer terribly.

Higher education has become too ingrained in our culture. Education and skills, for the most part, can be passed from person to person, without the need of a formal teaching institution.

Perhaps we're best going back to a grass-roots society, where everyone farms their own vegetables, and children are raised by the community...etc...etc...etc...

Well said! This is part of the core ethos of SolarIMG, but if higher education was a universal right we would not have this class gap at all.

There has been a long running joke in canada that Quebec isnt even a part of Canada. Honestly, it's a different culture, and what the previous posts said about the riots being because of students not willing to pay their own way through school and instead wanting to leech off of tax money is true.

I say they should suck it the $^@! up and pay their dues. Or, they can do as I did and learn how to program and develop websites on google, which is a much cheaper and quicker way to a career.

It is a different culture, but so is Alberta. Your logic is flawed. They have a higher tax rate. Just because you'll take it up the ass doesn't mean they're spoiled, they paid for the institutions already and the "money" is just debt.

And they are not "riots" they're peaceful demonstrations. Get your head out of your sand.

Who would pay for all of that education? Who would teach without getting paid for their services? Who would make all of the books and keep up with the times? Who would pay all of the gas and electric bills? I'm guessing you all think this just gets made out of thin air. I'm all for a utopia, but the way the U.S. is heading is we are almost at 50% of the population not paying ANY taxes, so the rest of us struggle to live paycheck to paycheck paying for welfare and government pensions and insurance while everyone struggles to pay for their own 401k to retire at possibly 70. We are at 16 trillion dollars in debt and every tax payer owns $140,000 according to the government. We have over 100 trillion dollars worth of unfunded liabilities (entitlement programs like social security, medicaid, medicare, etc.). So if you throw education for all in to the mix (which we have a 1 trillion dollar student loan bubble that will eventually burst), we are heading for bankruptcy. That said; I hate the fact that Canada and the U.S. are being such pricks. The laws they are writing are far from the things our founding fathers died for. Freedom is dying. I wish things could change for the better, but it doesn't seem to be heading in that direction. One world government is probably coming, along with one world currency ones the Euro collapses. Times are going to be tough, which will cause civil unrest, which in turn will bring about crazy laws. Blows.

I live here in Montreal amongst all this rioting, the students (and let me clarify they are college and university students 20-30+ yrs of age...I mention this because at one point they had the world believe we were dealing with CHILDREN), are protesting cause the RICH students want what the lower-income students have, and MORE, they want FREE education.

They riot and PROVOKE police, much of that can clearly be seen in many of the videos out there. They edit their own videos cutting off the beginning so as to only show the parts where police are taking action.
They upload all their videos to show the world, MISS LEADING you all.

They are DISTURBING all Montrealers with their silly banging of pots every single night throughout the wee-hours.
They vandalize (of course they wont tell you that) they throw bricks on over-passes putting all those driving at terrible risk (of course they dont tell you that), they set smoke bombs in our subway stations (they dont tell you that), they set fires all over the city, they attack ANYONE and EVERYONE who doesn't want to join their stupid protest, they threaten to ruin our summer festivities, and just yesterday many government buildings received packages with powder in them, which led to great panic and many being quarantined ALL OVER BAKING SODA!!! The list runs LONG of all the things they do, they are idiots, wanting the worlds attention in hopes that we give them FREE education.

Something BIG may happen here, I am not denying that, HOWEVER, what will happen will be from their own doing.

Ditch the corporate socialism and there's the money. Roads are paid for, hospitals, police and fire departments are paid for, primary and secondary education already paid for. Adding university and college to the tab is not a huge addition to cost once they remove the gifted monies they hand out to their corporate supporters. Of course, if the corporations aren't given gravy train privileges they won't give money back to the political parties.
