Yeah, and Communism was sold as being "for the people" too. The whole reason for the hammer and sickle symbolism was to appeal to the useful idiots who thought they would be the ones in power. The problem is, unless you are free to do what you want with your own property/business/money you are not free and whatever name you want to assign to that form of government, it is a form of tyranny no matter how benevolent it may claim to be. In Socialism, the government allows you to own your own property/business/money, but it tells you what you can and can not do with it. There are not rights given by God in that system because there are not rights at all, only allowances from government.

As power corrupts, that seemingly benevolent government will eventually dictate that what you want to do with what use to be your property/business/money is no longer allowable or that you must use it in ways you do not want. Finally, that socialized tyranny turns to full on communism when that formerly benevolent government simply takes what you have away and either gives it to someone else more compliant or destroys it outright to use as a fear tactic to control the rest of the population. Karl Marx himself in his Communist Manifesto said that Socialism was a transitional phase to Communism. There are just some roads you don’t start walking down because the path has no turns and your destination is destruction.
