I'll bet they can see the upper infrared, in which case it better be thick tape.

thank you for the advise! I'll put some paper and cotton below the thick tape, just in case. My friend has a laptop that is about six years old now, but she loves it because it works and it didn't have a camera!

Activate the tape vision mode

The only safe way its by using cotton sandwiched between 2 layers of aluminum foil dull side out. Attach with duct tape.

I do that.....but in reality if they were able to watch us through our pc camera then they have other means of watching us.

That doesn't mean jack shit unless the camera can actually be unplugged.

I'd add (for the exceptionally paranoid) a small piece of foil under the tape. Just large enough to cover the camera.

...but if you are TRULY paranoid....better make sure sure you physically disable the microphone as well.

seriously folks, cover your cameras. With all sorts of malware out there, the is no limit to what can be exploited. This includes your camera, microphone, key strokes, desktop screen, or any other peripheral.

I made a little cardboard cover for my PC, and a little cardboard slider for my mac.

Since this is now an UBER security discussion...and you are going into the UBER paranoid land for whatever reasons...
...re-image your laptop from a clean saved image every few weeks.

Never use the O/S for more than 2 weeks before refreshing it from the clean image.

Why do you wear that stupid bunny suit?

1) Install your O/S from scratch on your laptop / PC.
2) Install all your required software (only software you are SURE is clean and secure)
3) Use Ghost or Acronis or whatever to make an "IMAGE" of the O/S. (aka....an entire backup of everything)


Every 2 weeks....re-image the laptop / PC from the clean image.

Easy way to deal with potential virus issues and malware if you are running into constant infection problems.
