I can't remember how or where I learned to respect the flag. I do know at a very young age I was taught that it should never touch the ground and never fly in the rain.

I think suspension is a little much. Perhaps a little talk about the American flag and how to respect it (though sadly there probably isn't much respect left for it as of now)

And of course he had to be black, so now it will become a race issue.

Well, its a very important symbol of the US. Saying people died for that flag simply means the values it stands for. Wiping your hands on it is considered very bad form.

It already is a race issue. He is the only black kid in that school (think they said it was an "advanced learning" sort of school), and his mom said "he fell down/tripped going up some stairs and only grabbed the flag by accident". She went on to say that "it's a race thing because he's black", all this was on my local news last night...in Virginia.

I'm in Va too but I missed local news last night though I don't recall WRIC or NBC12 saying anything on the previews for it.

Actually I wanted to get back to the suspension and my total disgust with public schools. Frikking detention centers for juveniles. Want a good education go to a reputable NON PROFIT private schools. Stuff like this dont happen there and they actually teach subjects rather than educating children on how to become criminals.

That's GROSS! If he wants to live like a bum at home then he can, but he needs to learn some respect for others and school property.

A suspension is a fitting punishment.

He washed his hands and was wiping the water off. The school should have provided frikking paper towels for this or informed their parents to send a pack of paper towels with their kids.

Of course the flip side of this is teaching the kids to not wash their hands and start spreading diseases causing an epidemic. Alright thats way out there but this is afterall a conspiracy site :)

The really sad part is that if he were Mexican, he could have washed his pee stained hands on it, pulled it down, stomped on it and then took it outside and set it on fire in the playground and all that would have happened was that he got indoor recess because he was playing with fire.

When his revoked recess was mentioned in the news because the family was all upset, the principle would have made the statement:

"I assure everyone that this had nothing to do with what he did to the flag, this is not political, this is a safety issue having to do with him possessing a lighter."
