mysterious mass BEE DEATHS (possibly) EXPLAINED: virus carried by mites
[link to www.bbc.co.uk]

"A parasitic mite has helped a virus wipe out billions of honeybees across the globe, say scientists.

A team studying honeybees in Hawaii found that the Varroa mite helped spread a particularly nasty strain of a disease called deformed wing virus."

At least there's some idea of what was going on now.

I'd have to say it's taking the heat off the chemical companies.

Pesticide May Give Honeybee Virus an Advantage

A common pesticide used by beekeepers to kill honeybee-infecting mites temporarily leaves the bees more susceptible to a debilitating virus, new research suggests.

wow. might want to give more than 15 minutes between bumps.

anyway..

personally I would rather see the scientific study, and gain more insight into who is funding the study, before I accept this as THE cause. As a matter of fact the article doesnt say it is THE cause, only that it "helped". Helped what I ask? The mass amounts of die offs from the chemicals we have, and continue to pollute the environment with?

Come on people - humanity's attempt at covering up our guilt of what we have done, and continue to do to our own environment, is getting old. Take some responsibility and do all you can to limit your own pollution at the very least. There are less costly measures to achieving that "manicured lawn" that are far less damaging to the environment. Yes they can mean a little more work - but hell, some physical activity would be good for everyone.

Are these the same UK scientists that back Global Warming nuts???

Their credibility is quite low at this point.

Not buying it.

what doesnt add up, as a bee keeper with 5 hives, i know that bee keepers use oxalic acid to keep off parasites.

acaricides are not used here in the uk and i have never used them.

Monsanto is happy that you're buying that explanation.

It's so easy to sell you on that explanation, now that they've bought out the scientific research:

Monsanto buys leading bee research firm after being implicated in bee colony collapse

the only ones offering this as a reason for the bee decline are the bbc and the OP here.

none of the scientific literature state this is the cause.

Right, because it has nothing at all to do with chemtrails and pesticides that are sprayed near bee farms at all. Its like that idiot DR Kaku when he tried to say that all the birds were just committing suicide.

your propogating a well known condition as the cause for the bees decline without any scientific reason.

the bbc has printed an article that hilights some statistical research done in the number of infected bees.

the research doesnt offer it as a reason for the decline in bees.

thats done by the bbc... and now you.

before you know it, poeple will believe this without a shred of evidence or a second thought, and tomorrow people will be saying what?? pesticides killing bees.. no it was that virus.

clear?

im not even the slightest bit angry or offended, but you have too see that the bbc is just printing rubbish articles as usual.

going over old information like its new and ffs what is this

Prof Ian Jones, a virologist from the University of Reading said the findings mirrored "other known mechanisms of virus spread".

is that all a prof had to say!?

and the BBKA chairman Dr David Aston said it "increased our understanding of the relationships between Varroa and [this] significant bee virus."

had just that to say.

the rest of the article is just conjecture.

Re: mysterious mass BEE DEATHS (possibly) EXPLAINED: virus carried by mites
this is total BULLSHIT--the bee deaths can NOT be blamed on varroa or any virus that varroa carry

I am a bee keeper

varroa has been around a long long while and it may be decimating the wild bee populations, it is easy to control in your managed hives

EASY TO CONTROL

there are even natural ways of dealing with it (thyme oil)

we have varroa in NZ

but we don't have GMOs

and we don't have colony collapse either

at least not yet
