Emperor of the Rome usually spent most of his day in coliseum watching bloody massacres and it is not surprising that the other part of the day was spent by organizing the ones. If there was ever empire that did not invent anything, it was Rome. They did invent unique jurisprudence and philosophy however. Laws that prevented killing eachother off.
Rome for the most part was built on conquered gold and for the biggest part it was Dacian (Sarmatian) gold. Former inhabitants of this land were literally exterminated and gold plundered. All things come to an end and this gold ran out. There were no prospects of easy gold, conquest was out of the question. Rome with its way of life became hell on earth. Everyone turned their eyes at the slave religion of the time. It seemed to be panacea for problems Rome was facing. It wasn't about peace and unity or other modern terms, Rome was one big empire and hardly at any huge war. It was about another way of life as Rome was collapsing from inside.
