Um... I never assumed that the Sun was static in space and, as far as I know, modern astronomers don't believe that either.

However, the "spiral effect" seen in that video was only to show our solar system's movement through space. We orbit the sun on a fairly consistent plane in relation to the Sun, so consistent in fact, that a 2D model is good enough to show the basics of how we orbit.

Motion is relative to the frame of reference (FOR). From the Sun's FOR, we are orbiting it. There's no such thing as absolute motion.

to all those that think this is BS.. remember the sun is also revolving.. take a ball and spin it.. it will travel in the direction of the spin.. even in a weightless vacuum... therefore all the solar system and galaxies are traveling thru space, sometimes into each other.. Stop being so blind!
