It is sitting at the weight station at Indiana/Ohio I74 Harrison OH. Being guarded by State Trooper. Per FB..28 mins ago.

my question is why are they taking it down a major highway? Its like they are making a big deal about it.

if it happened often or wasnt wrapped it wouldnt be a big deal. I see tankers and humvies all the time.

Dont forget, when the WH released the B. Certificate less than a week later Bin Laden raid happened. Everyone was wound up about the BC, no one was looking at anything else.

Just seems to be a misdirection of sorts. just need to pay attention to other things that are happening also. Have that feeling that things are going to be picking up soon?

Looks like a drone to me. 1 of 30,000 soon to be roaming the U.S. Hope no one plans to sunbathe nude...unless you're into that kind of thing I guess.

the route was way to far north if it was traveling from Edwards to Maryland. if it was on I-74 then major interstates are not an issue, thus not even the most direct route.

i could see them detouring due to weather, not because of the cargo itself, but because safety for other drivers. due to the "wide load" status that it creates for other drivers, in bad weather that could be an issue.

Another reason would be if at night (same safety issue for other drivers) or "sleeping times" the were at military installations, then diverting would be done.

Also, from time spent working at a PD, anytime something like this rolls through (equipment, NBC, or anything sensitive) the less attention it gets is the best security. security would be more covert than overt (were there any other "box trucks" at the rest area? i could see a little raped reaction team in one, cargo box could be modified with bathrooms and racks and you would never be able to tell from the outside...makes sense if it was at weigh station, box truck could stop too without attracting too much attention). not to mention that there would be a few "aircraft" not far off if needed. they would already be airborne moving parallel with it. i haven't looked at the pics or video that close yet, but might be worth a shot to see if you could see any distant aircraft. would be much easier if you had other pics from the same view and then could compare the pixels of the surrounding sky.

There was a 2 people walking around checking it out while sitting at the rest area. As for other cars or trucks NO, the only thing by it was 1 State Police officer & another trailer that I could see.

A spokeswoman for the Patuxent River Naval Air Station’s Unmanned Aviation and Strike Weapons program says a 44-foot unmanned aircraft on a routine maintenance flight crashed near Bloodsworth Island around noon Monday.


U.S. Coast Guard Petty Officer Jonathan Lindberg says the Coast Guard is setting up a safety zone around the marshy area.

On Wednesday night, Facebook and Twitter users went wild over sightings of a saucer-shaped vessel being towed on local highways. The buzz called to mind the frenzy in 1947 Roswell, albeit in a much more modern way.

Drivers spotted the craft on I-270 and on the Beltway as it was pulled behind a tractor trailer.

But we can take the "unidentified" out of "unidentified flying object." (And yes, we realize that it wasn't actually flying, either.) The military has confirmed to NBC News affiliate News4 that the 82-foot-long craft is an unmanned military aircraft, known as an X-47B.

Maryland State Police towed it on a flatbed trailer from Garrett County, Md., to Naval Air Station Patuxent River.

The drone had come all the way from California -- and yes, it "always attracts attention," a military spokesperson told NBC4's Melissa Mollet.

The craft is the second of its kind to come to the area. An X-47B arrived in late 2011 -- although if they towed that one on the Beltway, no one must have noticed.

"In the coming months, you can expect to see the X-47B flying over the base and surrounding area along the Chesapeake Bay," said Matt Funk, lead test engineer.

According to a military press release:


The X-47B is the first unmanned vehicle designed to take off and land on an aircraft carrier. As part of the program's demonstration, the X-47B will perform arrested landings and catapult launches at Pax to validate its ability to conduct precision approaches to the carrier. The base is one of only a few sites in the world where the Navy can run performance tests on aircraft-carrier catapult operations at a land-based facility with flight test and engineering support resources not available on a ship.

Although Maryland State Police helped orchestrate the the drone's Wednesday night commute, even they didn't know what it was at the time, police told News4.

"Don't worry, that's not an alien spacecraft, just a flying military robot. [That was a] totally normal sentence in 2012. I love the future," Ben Jacobs tweeted

People in the D.C. area are buzzing after pictures began popping up online showing what many believed to be a 'UFO' in transport along the Capitol Beltway.

The spotting took place around 11:00 p.m. Wednesday when drivers first saw the craft being hauled on a flatbed truck on I-270, and then again down I-495.

An official at Northrop Grumman confirmed to FOX 5 on Thursday that the craft was actually an X-47B Unmanned Combat Air System.

They say the unmanned drone was being transported from Edwards Air Force Base in California to the Naval Air Station Patuxent River in Maryland for testing.

It wasn't the first time this style of aircraft had had been mistaken for a 'UFO' while being transported. Last year, residents of Cowley County, Kansas made a similar mistake.


DefenseTech.org reported that last year, engineers practiced aircraft carrier take-offs and landings with the drone on a strip of runway at Patuxent Station that's painted to resemble a carrier's flight deck.

I am guessing in 5 years this thread will look pretty silly. By then, drones sightings will be commonplace. Maybe even sports teams mascots, breakfast cereals kids toys etc. They will be as commonplace as a Volkswagon Bu, or a kid with a mohawk.
