Anyone else thinking of the last scene in "Swordfish"?

Gotta be a drone attack. Or it was hit by one crashing.
 Quoting: Mr. Toppit

lol I thought the exact same thing!

Drone computer program malfunction caused it to fire on the yacht... the Pentagon had to ditch the drone afterwards.

lol A very GLP theory.

yeah, but GLP theories are becoming more realistic by the day.

Interesting that it doesn't appear to be on that site, but you can see a few CG and FDNY boats in the pertinent area.

According to Marine traffic it is a Grand Cayman flagged ship.

I lived on a boat for a very long time, this is not that uncommon. Once a year some idiot would blow themselves up at the gas dock.

What is not so common is for this to happen to a ship this large.

Fuel leak in the engine compartment will do it.

Ships are equipped with sniffers for just this reason.

Never trust the sniffer, always check the engine room. If it malfunctions just one time this can be the result.
I'm only human, it's my biggest flaw.

We must all realize a sink a chair and a pillow are all luxuries of home and a soldiers helmet takes the place of all three.

If false, it would be the second such how involving a report of aboat in distress in a year. Last July, a 10-hour search of 600 square miles of ocean water failed to find a purported sinkinsailboat or victims.

Funny...as a mechanic and boat owner I was gonna say it's got an inboard motor with a fuel/vapor leak written all over it.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 12990587

Any yacht that size has a diesel engine, not gasoline.

Diesels don't just go kaboom without 'help'.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 17788839

Exactly.....therefore GAS ENGINE....and smaller boat.
They don't put gas engines in anything over 35ft or so.
(fishing vessel wise)
 Quoting: Burt Gummer

....but still....they said 21 people on board. hmm

That's an overload for a 35-40 ft SF / battlewagon.
 Quoting: Burt Gummer

Because you don't really know anything about this boat.

That happens a lot also.

It is a felony, six years in jail and quarter million dollar fine for each false call, but also they will bill you for the entire cost of the rescue operation that is staged on top of it.

One year we had a person call in 6 fake ships in distress in one month, they caught the person.

If someone dies during the rescue operation they can charge them with the death also.

Odd indeed. Been following this and the tv. Was on CNN and a local station here but neither had pictures. Also they were interviewing and officer over the phone who was on the scene who was asked about "how did they find it".

I mean I understand that a boat can sink but, 100%? No nothing? Then I didn't see another blip of it so far.

That's peculiar in and of itself unless the Blind Date that's profiled there has been shut-down since then. That site updates in real-time via AIS.

From that article:

Coast Guard Lt. Joe Klinker said as of about two hours after the blast life rafts hadn't been located. He said the boaters were unable to transmit a GPS position to authorities. He said rescuers knew their approximate location "but not to the point that we're able to shoot right out there and find them," Klinker said.
 Quoting: HuffPo

That implies the CG aren't jumping to the conclusion it's a hoax.
