Not Nice.. But we did have a large boat blowup at the gas dock because the kids took out Dad's fishing boat and filled it with gas only in the ??? well it was not the right place!

I think it was (help me out) where the fishing poles go?

Interesting that it doesn't appear to be on that site, but you can see a few CG and FDNY boats in the pertinent area.

According to Marine traffic it is a Grand Cayman flagged ship.

Watching channel 7 local NYC news- looks like a cover up- saying there is nothing out there

I lived on a boat for a very long time, this is not that uncommon. Once a year some idiot would blow themselves up at the gas dock.

What is not so common is for this to happen to a ship this large.

Fuel leak in the engine compartment will do it.

Ships are equipped with sniffers for just this reason.

Never trust the sniffer, always check the engine room. If it malfunctions just one time this can be the result.

If false, it would be the second such how involving a report of aboat in distress in a year. Last July, a 10-hour search of 600 square miles of ocean water failed to find a purported sinkinsailboat or victims.

It does make me wonder why the Coast guard would report this, unless they were pretty sure that something had actually happened. If it's a hoaxand someone has trolled the USCG then they are in trouble for sure.

Yeah, I saw a documentary where they were showing the post office. It has thousands more p.o. boxes than the entire population of the island.

The questions become, if this is a hoax, then 1) who? and 2) why?

Ya i saw that and that was back on Feb 20/12. Nothing reported after that.

whatever the images being shown on the "drone", go look closely because that is NOT the drone they claim.

Per marinetraffic there is still a CG boat in the area (although MT does say that positions can be up to an hour old)

That happens a lot also.

It is a felony, six years in jail and quarter million dollar fine for each false call, but also they will bill you for the entire cost of the rescue operation that is staged on top of it.

One year we had a person call in 6 fake ships in distress in one month, they caught the person.

If someone dies during the rescue operation they can charge them with the death also.

Odd indeed. Been following this and the tv. Was on CNN and a local station here but neither had pictures. Also they were interviewing and officer over the phone who was on the scene who was asked about "how did they find it".

I mean I understand that a boat can sink but, 100%? No nothing? Then I didn't see another blip of it so far.

That's peculiar in and of itself unless the Blind Date that's profiled there has been shut-down since then. That site updates in real-time via AIS.

Even if the yacht had been scrapped you'd think they'd be a record of that.

They are offically calling off the search as per Monmouth county radio.

Hmm, interesting. I'll be intrigued to hear any public statement they make.
