Yes...it is normal. What is the rainfall situation in your area. In the spring trees output maximum leaves and then drop them according to the rainfall received to support that growth. See it all the time.

It's not normal when lots of the branches that shed the leaves never come back.

It's funny how the same excuse is always used whether there has been adequate rainfall or not. Also the trend is worldwide, not everywhere is in drought though. Denial can only take one so far. Gotta face up to it eventually.

Green Bay, we are having very dry conditions, the kind we normally expect in August. Droughts have happend in the past. If we don't get rain in next month it will be very hard for dairy.
I drive truck through Chicago everyday. Saw grass fire on median area today. If we don't get rain in another month this could be a serious problem.

I've lived in Hillbilly NY for most of my life, and have never noticed what appeared to be early leaf drop until last summer.

Last year I noticed it far before the typical fall shedding.

Yesterday my 3 year old grandaughter said, "Look Grandma it's snowing !!" Sure enough I went outside and our willows are dropping leaves like crazy .... with 3 huge ones in our yard, it certainly looked something like snow fall.

Is this normal, or are we experiencing something completely new in the past 2 years ???

Anyone else noticing it ?

The people who say it is normal are straight up in denial. All these different excuses for a widespread problem.

I have two plants in a room with a skylight that have been doing amazingly well for the last couple of years. In another room with a skylight is a bamboo that was thriving. In the last couple of weeks they've started dying. Bamboo looks the best but its leaves look unhealthy.

I think this is weird that all three are dying after doing soooo well. I think its the sun affecting them somehow as never before.

LOL !!!!!!! depends on a few things--'
tree needs more water
is growing
has some sort of sickness
OR simply is the same kind of POS right here that sheds,DROPS leaves and bark and branches all throughout the summer.
other morning i thought it was FALL,the leaves were ankle deep all over the place.

We are supposed to plunge into the next great Ice Age. From what I understand about it, it's not going to be a gradual one, but rather a sudden type of ordeal. With as many of the volcanoes and even the melting of the tundra in Russia and possibly Canada and Alaska LOTS of methane's being released in almost incalcable rates and measurements. It's merely a matter of time before we see massive drop offs in tempertures planet wide instead of mostly in the Euporean countries. The Earth's axis is WAY off from the 23.5 degrees. That's also a major contributor in a quite a few ways. I don't think that this major Ice Age is going to last a long long time. Maybe a few decades at max. At least I hope so anyways.

Well I've had this specific yard and trees for over 14 years, lived in the area for over 45, and have been getting a very good mix of rain and sun all spring. Let me add to the list as our Bean Tree(Catalpa Speciosa), which is typically in full bloom now, and abundantly so, is barely pushing out a flower.

This did happen last year, I made lots of excuses, but to have it happen again this year ??? It's not making much sense as pure happenstance.

Re: Is it normal for trees to start dropping leaves in June ???
It's a little early, but the warm weather came early too.

Trees with continuous growth, normally called sustained growth, continue to produce leaves as long as growing conditions are favorable. It seemed fitting then, that such trees might abort leaves when conditions aren’t favorable. Hmmm. In other words, they “over produce” leaves, then in an effort to conserve limited moisture in harsh, hot times, they rebalance by aborting leaves. Normally the oldest (interior) leaves are the first ones aborted.

Again no lack of water or sun this year.

What about last year ??

Two totally different growing seasons, same results, and both atypical of any other year.

We did have a local outbreak of 17 yr locust that arrived 3 yrs early. But it's been hot and sunny in Ohio so the trees shedding leaves don't seem to be a big deal. Plus it's not like they are losing all their leaves, I would panic then.

Well, depending where you are in Ohio, you may be a little dry but this wouldn't effect all trees. In regard to being very sunny, that it is half the equation of food (photosynthesis) for trees, unless the ozone layer is worse off than we have been led to believe.
And of course, this would also be an atypical trend for the worse.

Upstate NY however has plenty of moisture, plenty of sunshine, and no reports of disease or bugs that would be the cause of early leaf drop.

Very little snow this winter here in Illinois.

Dry Spring

Seems like a drought is upon us.

HAARP weapon influencing the Jet Stream and weather....perhaps.

Heads up for crop failures later on.
