He told her to stay calm and even joked that she should go sunbathing before the rocks gave way and he plunged to the beach below. Mr Simkins, from north London, had jumped from the top of the cliff at Navagio beach but after he opened his parachute he was blown back towards the rocks and his canopy became snagged. Over the following three hours he phoned and texted his girlfriend at their hotel in Volima. A police spokesman in Zante, which is also known as Zakynthos, said: “He spoke to her on the mobile, told her everything that happened, while he was actually hanging from the rock cliff. He was even sending her SMS messages while hanging, hooked by his chute on the cliff edge. [link to www.telegraph.co.uk]

Whats funny is that people are surprised when people who jump out of airplanes die. I jumped out of a few in the military. At best your chances of making it are always about 50/50.

He's in such a terrible circumstance and he's lovingly comforting his girlfriend. I think he was foolish to do such a thing with a baby on the way, but it shows something deeply good in humanity to see that he was reaching out to her to comfort her and tell her he loved her while his life hung by a thread. They had a quote from some guy who'd rushed to his aid but then left because his boat was arriving. Couldn't help thinking that I'd have opted to miss the boat and try and help since someone's life was possibly hanging in the balance. Certainly I wouldn't have made it common knowledge.
