I'm not a sports fan per se but I did use to love FSU. That was only because I grew up in Tallahassee and both parents worked there. My dad actually worked for Bowden and our next door neighbor owned 2 taverns right outside the main gate so he would have these big weekend shin digs with the whole team and I got to meet them all. You do that for a few years and you can't help but like the team.hf My mom actually got me a whole team signed gameball back in 87. She trapped all the players in the clinic when they had to get their annual physicals and made them autograph it for her son. I had so much memorabilia it wasn't funny.hf

Cincinnati Reds- Geographical, plus my grandparents lived in Northern KY when I was a kid, and they would take me to games.

Cincinnati Bengals- Geographical (obviously)

THE Ohio State Buckeyes- Geographical

Just grew up following the local teams, now I'm a hardcore fan.

Gotya, that's another reason I forgot to mention. A lot of people like the teams their parents or grandparents liked as well. Thanks for sharing!

Re: Sports fans, I have a ? for you.
I liked the Chicago White Sox, not the Cubs.

At 11 years old I was off to my 1st Ball game, a Sox game.
We got there to find out it was cancelled because "Disco Demolition"
wrecked the field the night before at Commisky Park.

The next week, a friend and myself ditched school
and took the L down to Wrigley field.
We sneaked in about the 3rd inning.

As we were running up the ramps we saw two topless women walking down the ramp. That was the first 4 breasts I had ever seen in real life. I've been a Cubs fan ever since. ;-`)

Boston Fan, since the mid 60,s. It was great when the Boston Pats became NE Pats because it really is New England's
team along with the Red Sox, Celts, & Bruins.......
 Quoting: JACKYL

Good shit, I like the city of Boston. I have been to a couple Celtics games and I like the Pats. A lot of people hate them because of how good they are/were but I enjoyed watching the Brady/Moss combo a few years back. I hate the Red Sox though, lol.

Re: Sports fans, I have a ? for you.
I was born in VA and my family raised me a deadskins fan (through thick and thin, mostly thick). at least we have RG3 now. I now live in carolina and enjoy watching the panthers (it works out since the two teams are in different conferences) my sis went to Appalachain State and we use to go watch the games and Armanti Edwards play and he now plays for carolina.

Im a Va-Tech fan myself, almost all of my family went there. too bad outta state tuition is through the roof. but they are my college team.

Baseball is Yankees. My dad and his side of the family was born in NY so i was just raised a yankee fan.

im not a big NBA fan but i like the OKC thunder. They have been down in the dumps so long (in seattle) its good to see a team make a come back. Durant is a class act too. However i wouldnt mind seeing the HEAT win just so ppl will shutup about them getting the ring and things can go back to normal.

i enjoy the chat during the game last night too btw, see you thursday. Bosh will make game winning 3.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 7393607

Gotya. Most people like the local teams, but I usually hate rooting for the same teams as everyone else. The only "local teams" I liked growing up were Georgetown and Va-Tech and Va-Tech wasn't even really local. None of my friends liked wither of them. That is probably why I didn't like the skins though. I do kinda like them now that I live in PA, but I HATE the Eags and Steelers both.

Durant is a beast and seems like a great person off teh court as well. I hope they sweep the cocky ass, over-rated Heat.

I'll be back in the chat, it was fun!

Va-Tech should be ok this year, as long as they do not lose a couple in the beginning like they have been.

Despite Atl and the Panthers being in the same division, I do not hate them. I love Steve Smith as a WO and enjoy watching Newton as well.

My dad and brother are both Yankess and Giants fans. I guess that is why I always have rooted against them my whole life, haha. I always enjoy being the odd one out, especially with things like this.

Thanks for sharing!

I grew up in the northeast, but was a Chisox and KC Chiefs fan. I stopped watching games on TV about 4 years ago when I realized this is all about maintaining a divide and conquer mentality, e.g. my tribe vs. your tribe. Occasionally, I'll check to see how those teams are doing and I still play fantasy football, but it's not the same feeling as it was before.
 Quoting: in5d

Chi Sox! I know what you are saying though... I was so mad when KC drafted Brandon Flowers a couple of years ago. He is a great DB and the Falcons were going to draft him. (They love Va-Tech D-backs)

Sweet Vid, thanks! When I was at my last university and didn't play football (I boxed) A lot of my friends who played football for them but then got sick of the time and effort college football required, so they went to rugby instead. It is a club sport in college over here, just like boxing. I went to a few practices and really enjoyed it, but never stuck it out, I enjoyed boxing and mma too much.

NFL - Miami Dolphins and NY Giants. I grew up during the Dan Marino years and had a huge crush on him, hence becoming a Dolphin fan (despite living in NJ). I always liked the Giants too, because they are the local team and are NFC, and therefore not rivals of the Fins (like the dirty Jets) These days, after so many years of disappointment, I'm more of a Giants fan than Dolphins...

NBA/MLB - couldn't care less

NHL - RANGERS! I was never really into hockey, and occasionally rooted for the Devils (I'm in NJ), but my husband is a diehard Ranger fan and he converted me :) Next year we will get the cup!

Oh and we are also HUGE Hershey Bears fans!! My husband grew up in PA and his folks still live there (Caps fans!) so we go to Bears games all the time :)
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 5240732

Nice! Marino was such a great QB. I hate the Jets as well, not sure why, lol. Hershey Bears! I have never been to a game, but I should go sometime.

I do not like the Devils or Rangers, but I like them more than the Flyers, Pens, and Red Wings, haha.

I think...no I KNOW I have a ton of those Frank Thomas baseball cards too...lol, and Griffey Jr and Jeter + A-Rod rookie SP cards.

I've always been into GP/Superbike racing, Wayne Rainey, Kevin Schwantz, Kenny Roberts, Casey Stoner...Scott Ru$$ell. These men can do things with bikes that have power-to-weight ratios most folks can't even understand, let alone come close to doing. Never was a big fan of team sports.

p.s. I'm pretty sure Belfort's first name is Victor, it just sounds like "Vitor", he lost his edge about 5-10 years ago when some scum-bags down there kidnapped his sister and killed her, if I remember correctly. He hasn't been the same since. Fast hands indeed, almost as fast as mine...almost.

Re: Sports fans, I have a ? for you.
I'm a huge L.A. Dodgers fan and have been my entire life even though I've lived near Detroit my entire life. My family was really into baseball and every Sunday we'd go to my Grandpa's for dinner and he'd have the Tigers game on the Radio with Ernie Harwell. My whole family loved the Tigers naturally but I could never get into liking them. They just sucked too badly so when they would cheer when they'd win, I'd cheer when they lost.

But since i didn't like the Tigers I needed my own team to like so I was watching a Saturday afternoon ballgame on NBC between the Dodgers and somebody else. The year was about 1976, or early 77. I believe the announcer was Vin Scully and he told the story about how Steve Yeager was the first catcher to ever wear the neck protector on his mask and he told the story about how he got hit by a bat in the batters circle. I thought it was pretty cool that the Dodgers catcher was the fist to have that neck protector and right after that Steve Yeager became my favorite player and the Dodgers became my favorite team.

I am a very loyal person so I have never even considered liking any other team. When the Dodgers season ends, my baseball season ends, and don't even care who wins the World Series. I absolutely love baseball but I can not root for anybody besides the Dodgers.

When I first started following basketball it was when the Pistons were winning their championships between 88 and 90 so they were the first team that I rooted for but as I grew to know more about the sport Dominique Wilkins quickly became my favorite player and by 1991 the Atlanta Hawks became my favorite team.

For football my first favorite team was the Miami Dolphins for no reason at all but when Barry Sanders came to Detroit they became my favorite team. He is easily the greatest running back of all time. Anyone who says Emmit Smith was better is a freakin retard.

Hockey I dont' have a favorite team because it sucks balls and I dont' even consider it a sport. To be a sport you must have some kind of sportsmanship involved and there is absolutely none of that in hockey. Take out the fighting and it might not be so bad. And I like a good fight as much as anyone but if I want to see one in sports I'll turn on a boxing match. Hockey is absolutely pathetic.
