Alligator bites off airboat captain's hand in front of horrified tourists after he taunted it with marshmallows (but his hand was then retrieved
An airboat captain from Everglades City, Florida, had his hand ripped off by an alligator while he was allegedly feeding the animal on Tuesday.

Witnesses said the victim, an employee of Captain Doug’s Everglades Tours known as Captain Wally, was seen feeding an alligator marshmallows minutes before the animal bit off his hand.

Incredibly, the severed limb was later retrieved from the reptile's stomach when officials from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) tracked down and killed the gator.

I live in Florida. They kill any alligator that attacks a person here.

Florida has many cold water springs that are filled with alligators. People go swimming, kayaking, and canoeing with the alligators all the time. Most of the time the gators do not hurt people, they are scared and run from you. They are not really aggressive here in FL like the crocs are.

I once kayaked down a cold water spring river, out in the wilderness, and came on this about 12 foot gator sunning on the bank of the river with his mouth open wide. I kayaked right past him and he didn't move at all. My husband and son kayaked past him after me. I was about 10 feet from the gator. He didn't move.

These places that have alligators for show do things with gators that are dangerous. Gatorland in Orlando, places like that.

I might have passed that exact alligator a few years ago :) Took my breath away. Learned to sail at Lake Wauberg at the Univ. of Florida. Small lake PACKED with huge gators. You learn quick not to tip the boat.

Why kill the gator, wouldnt any natural predator have done the same thing if it was being taunted? Kill all animals then because people have to be stupid when it comes to wild animals.

An friend told be about a time he was down south, and was feeding gators marshmallows... Said they go nuts for them, and this would seem to confirm that.

Don't hand-feed an animal something they rilly-rilly like...

I have a healthy respect for the gators, but I do have to admit that I go swimming in places with them. If you want to go in the cold water springs in Florida, they have gators. At Rock Springs State Park, a place I go often, a man was attacked by a small 6 ft. gator. It came up behind him and clamped it's mouth on his head. He managed to pry the gator's mouth open and get away. The gator was later hunted down and killed. I don't know why they hunt them down and kill them after they attack, I just know that is what they do.

We also have big snakes in the springs and the Everglades. I saw a snake the size of a python in the springs once. It's head was the size of a small dinner plate. I about jumped out of my kayak!

Some of the cold water springs like Wekiva State Park is partly partitioned off. The head of the springs has a cement wall around it. But there is still one place the gators can get in and they do. You will find a gator in the springs once in a while.

The gators really aren't too agressive, they really aren't. You need to watch them in March and April during their mating season. I don't go in the springs around that time.
Thousands of people swim around with the alligators in the springs in the summertime. Kind of cool to see, I think! No fear!

Crocs, are agresive, always
Caiman depend of mensures. The big one, black caiman is a furious and big predator (18 feets)
aligator is short repitile and eventualy atach, but is not common.
They are a diferents beens and diferent behaviors.

Big snake in florida is not american snakes (they are boa type, contrictor serpent like eunectis murinus - anaconda or python), they was a pet that became big, and people put free, they are really dangerous.
