Why does my cat meow at night - a really pathetic meow? | |

Neither sleep at night and the stairwell gets turned into feline Daytona 500. I've noticed if I feed them at night instead of day she doesn't mew so bad. They are nocturnal so maybe that would help? When I go see him, he's standing on the other side of the door and the first chance he gets he runs to my bedroom. Rumour has it that I was not born, I just walked in one frosty morn', Into the vision of some vacant mind. --- Damn! You always treat me like a mountain, stranger. Though I have never seen your shadows or fading lights, I’m just a rock that you’ll be picking up through all your ages, Always believing there’s a canyon for every blind. |
Anonymous Coward (OP) User ID: 1018748 United States 06/13/2012 04:54 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | He's a flat faced persian, and let me tell you he is spoiled. Since his face is so flat (and I feed him wet food only once in the morning) I have to stand next to his bowl while he eats - he stares at me to fix his food - and push his food back up into a pile so that he can eat it otherwise he can't. He follows me EVERYWHERE, and I mean everywhere, to the bathroom, he's waiting for me when I get home. When I eat dinner he runs to his hard food bowl and eats. When I watch tv he will jump up on the couch next to me and lay by me and he will watch tv. When I move couches he follows. When I go out into my enclosed patio he follows. So maybe the meow means something??? He is in perfect health. He loves it when I bring a small box home for him to play in!! |

We have a new cat that does this. I just talk back. I think he likes to know he's not alone and just chattering. They can be social but not in the mood for petting. He will do that for about 10 minutes! I just keep saying "I'm here" cuz I think he also doesn't like to be alone. |

?Really? User ID: 17885592 United States 06/13/2012 05:24 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Hi My cat is 16, and has done that for years when she was in the house. I used to live in an old homestead farmhouse, and she would stand in the middle of the room looking in a specific direction each time, and start that long meeeeeoooowwww, in a deep tone. I know there were spirits in that house. The old man that built it stayed there after he passed. We lived there for 6 years, and this was a nightly occurrance so long as she was indoors. It was like she was telling me that there is a spirit RIGHT THERE. I never thought it might be anything else because kids that could "see", would tell me about the old man. I also knew he was there, and think that my cat did too. Have spirits in your house of the "non-alcohol variety?" |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 1540313 United States 06/13/2012 05:41 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | His brother and sister don't meow at night, in fact they are crashed out. Several times a week, I wake up hearing this really loud meow, turn the light on, walk into the kitchen and he's looking at me with wide eyes (almost like fear?). Last night same thing, but this time he was in the closet looking at something in the back. Looked in there to see if one of his siblings were in there, but no, they were on the bed. Strange. He only started doing this probably in the last month or so. he's fixed, inside only cat as are the others. Thoughts? Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1018748 I usually pick him up and comfort him next to me, and then he will get up after a while and he's fine. ...strange. rodents in the walls |

Anonymous Coward (OP) User ID: 1018748 United States 06/13/2012 05:42 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Another site said this: I've read dozens of animal psychology books, and the conclusion I've come to is this: they whine to show off, they whine to move you, they whine when they want your attention (remember, cats are nocturnal and will probably want more attention at night than you're willing to give). Some are clingy and not shy about it. The meowing is the only way they have to express themselves besides rubbing up against people, and people don't always notice a cat curling around their ankles. |
