The Chosen One (OP) User ID: 2717891 United States 06/13/2012 07:20 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I think Jesus did miracles even before He was baptized. He is also God and divine as well as being human and was so prior to baptism. Thus, I believe the answer is Yes. Quoting: FierySky Can you point me to scripture that shows the miracles he performed before his Baptism? Quoting: The Chosen One Could this be God's spirit entering the sacred body of Jesus? Jesus was born of a virgin making his body Holy! From then Jesus was being prepared to receive the spirit of God at the Baptism of Jesus by John.. After his Baptism Jesus performed many miracles.. Hello OP, IIRC, scripture gives no record of miracles prior to His baptism. But scripture does tell us that when The Christ came into the world, he knew who He was/is and what His mission was to be. - (Hebrews 10:5). Scripture is not explicit as to when He knew. But, IMHO, the baptism by John seems to signify the official start to his earthly ministry. Was it the Spirit Of God which descended upon Him? Yes, according to scripture, it was The Spirit Of God which descended upon Him - (Matt 3:16). Regarding His vessel, He was recorded as having said that the flesh profits nothing, rather it is the Spirit which gives life. - (John 6:63). God Bless OP. peace, |

One might be inclined to ask themselves Who's Spirit did descend and ascend? One man might say; "The Spirit Of God"... But The Christ did not "descend", scripture tells us He was born of a woman, and yet He is speaking of himself (The Son of man) "ascending to where he was before" So who then descended? Things for me to ponder. peace, |

From then Jesus was being prepared to receive the spirit of God at the Baptism of Jesus by John.. After his Baptism Jesus performed many miracles.. Good topic, OP. Most will likely debate the exact year of his birth, ministry and death but the greatest range I have ever heard discussed is that he was born 4-6 BC and died in 28-30 AD. I personally believe he began his ministry around the age of 27 or 28 and of course it only lasted 12-24 months at the very most. Remember, John the Baptist was his cousin and he and Jesus were conceived only a few months apart. In fact, Mary went to go visit Elizabeth (John's mother) when she found out she was pregnant (probably kept her from being stoned as she wasn't married yet and only about 13). She didn't know Elizabeth was pregnant before seeing her. John was born just a couple of months before Jesus. We don't know much about Jesus life between the time he preached in the temple as a young boy (12-13 perhaps?) and when he approached John to baptize him. I imagine although he spent much time as a carpenter he pretty much kept to himself in order to study and learn as much as he could to prepare for his ministry. I don't think there would be any need for him to perform miracles before that point. He already knew he had a very short amount of time on earth once he started teaching so I doubt he wanted much attention on himself. What I find interesting is how young the Disciples were. I believe the oldest was 19 and the youngest 13 but I could be wrong. There's an excellent book called "Twelve Ordinary Men" that examines the lives of each of the Disciples and it's an easy and interesting read because they truly WERE just like you or me. If you like reading John there's a free movie on YouTube called "The Gospel According to John". I've watched it several times now and always enjoy it. They also have the Gospels according to Luke, Matthew and Mark. The best scene of the Sermon on the Mount is shown in Matthew. The movies have the chapter and verse (example: 12:13) as the movies play so you can refer to your bible if you like. Here is the link to "John". Mozilla has a YouTube down loader so you can download each of the 2 part movie and watch it at your convenience. The best one to install (SO EASY!) is Easy YouTube Videos Downloader 6.1. You can burn it to disc. Part 1: Part 2: Peace of Christ be with you! Miggy PS. Regarding your comment about God entering Jesus body at the moment of Baptism, I personally believe Jesus was born as God in the flesh. I do NOT mean that Jesus and God are the same being. I do not believe Christ would have prayed to Himself, asked Himself why He was abandoning Himself, and taught that the only way we can go to the Father is through Christ. Why the Catholics believe you can pray to God by going through Mary (although she was of course Holy)is beyond me. Maybe a Catholic can answer because it's always bugged me. When he was baptized the bond of Father, Son and Holy Spirit was complete. |

He kills a boy out of anger and then resurrects him when he was young. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1018748 What is the gnostic texts? From gotquestions.org The Gnostic gospels are writings by early "Christian" Gnostics. After the first century of Christianity, two primary divisions developed - the orthodoxand the Gnostics. The orthodoxChristians held to books we now have in the Bible and to what is today considered orthodoxtheology. The Gnostic Christians,if they can truly be described as Christians, held a distinctly different view of the Bible,of Jesus Christ,of salvation, and of virtually every other major Christian doctrine. However, they did not have any writings by the Apostles to give legitimacy to their beliefs. That is why and how the Gnostic gospels were created. The Gnostics fraudulently attached the names of famous Christians to their writings, such as the gospel of Thomas, the gospel of Philip, the gospel of Mary, etc. The discovery of the Nag Hammadi library in northern Egypt in 1945 represented a major discovery of Gnostic gospels. These Gnostic gospels are often pointed to as supposed "lost books of the Bible." When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro. |
