Let's look at WW2, Nazis vs Reds.

The Germans had all the latest technology at their disposal including machine guns, tanks, planes, etc. The reds had a bolt-action rifle known commonly as the Mosin Nagant M91/30, a few tanks, no planes.

The Reds were very successful in holding back an army with scores better machines of war, on a rifle that literally the peasants could use and tear down to clean within minutes, yet only had a 5-round box magazine.

Honestly guys it's not really about technology. It's a matter of skill. The Reds had skills way beyond the Nazis in terms of making every bullet count vs "spray and pray".

Look at today: I could not tell you how many stories I have heard from friends of mine coming back from Afghanistan about scores of our troops being pinned down by a rifle that was destined to be obsolete - the Mosin Nagant.

It's not about technology. It's skill. The Russians and Chinese are bred and taught how to fight. We tend to like to sit back and punch a few buttons and expect something to happen.

While I agree that we are the most advanced war machine on the planet, we rely TOO MUCH on technology. Technology will never replace skill.

If we go to war with Russia AND China, we would probably lose. I hate to say that, but we really would lose, UNLESS we learned to go back to developing skill over technology.

Both the syrians russians (and most everyone else) know this divide and conquer ploy is the calling card of the u.s..
Russia sees moving in for the kill by NATO is imminent, even though attack on a sovereign country is way out of line and to be resolved internally. That's the war he's talking about.

My guess is that Putin might try creating 'russian presence' in the water to discourage overt attack on Syria.

Listen while I agree that we have become very soft in our country I would not quite call it pussyfooting. I will agree that we are using the same tactics we used in Vietnam NOW in Afghanistan and where did that end up? We can't win against rebels who all they have left is their religious beliefs, with the tactics we are currently using at our disposal.
