How about they were designed that way to let light through since most people do not have light fixtures above their shower and would prefer not to shower in darkness. Not very common for others to be in the bathroom with you while you are showering.

Glass cuts aren't cool. I almost cut my finger off from some shattered glass a few years back.

Good thing I don't have a glass shower door...if that hot water hits an open cut like that, you could very likely die.

This needs further investigation.

If those doors are 'in the back of your mind,' you know there's a reason for it! Perhaps the GLP effect will work here when I say that every time in my life that I have deliberately ignored little thoughts like that, I've been sorry for it. Maybe the glass isn't quite as good as it used to be? That wouldn't be a surprise. Remember the poison sheet rock from China? The exploding laptop batteries? Exploding Crown Victoria's? Here's one of the greatest ideas for a shower I have ever heard. This shower does not have any glass doors, but it does have fruit trees.

so, it is actually 3 layers, the outer quenched (2) and the inner (1)

this gives 2 boundary layers,

if high or low frequencies are interacting, friction between the layers builds up heat, or causes microfractures internally
