I heard something a few minutes ago that reminded me of an earthquake, but I didn't feel anything. I'm in north central though.

Strange!

It was in NW Oklahoma City. Usually they occur along the Nemaha fault, which is slightly east of the city.

Actually, they do take reports from people in the area, and they have an online form asking all sorts of questions about if things fell out of your cabinets, etc.

Thank you for all of the kind replies.

Remember that we are inland, away from any major fault zones, and for some reason earthquakes east of the Rockie Mountains are shallower than California quakes, and are "felt" much more intensely.

So a 2.5 may seem like nothing to someone accustomed to California or other major fault zone quakes, but to someone in our geography they feel like a major jolt.

I ran outside immediately when it happened, and all of the local birds where squawking and screeching as they took flight.

For what it is worth, bird behaviour had been normal right up until the quake.

No matter how disturbing it may be to hear a large BOOM and feel your house rattle, in no way does any 2.5 earthquake qualify as a catastrophe.

Interesting, yes.

Catastrophic, not in the slightest.

Yes -- a 2.5 and it was to the north of you, up by Nichols Hills.

I just happened to be sitting quietly when it hit.

i did a thread on the two that happened yesterday, intellicast did show it but live EQ map didn't, and usgs had a different reading than intellicast and never updated. usgs upgraded the 2 quakes.

both were listed at the same richter as the upgraded site, HERE:

[link to anf.ucsd.edu]

which was shared with me in that thread and apparently is listings of quakes usgs does NOT report.

yeah it's confusing.

i did get screenshots from yesterdays readings.

Re: Earthquake Oklahoma Just Felt It!!!
Something very interesting.

I have been looking at the data of subjective reports submitted by people like me who experienced the jolt of the quake.

There were a whole lot more of us south and east of OKC who reported it, and who reported it as "stronger" (subjectively) than people who actually live closer to the epicenter.

I live almost exactly "on" the Nemaha fault, and I could swear, I percieved it from the "East" (the direction from which I percieve most Nemaha quakes) rather than from the north or west (the actual epicenter direction from me).

Could the waves bounce and magnify at the Nemaha???

I do not know, but it is certainly odd, and I am obviously not alone in my perceptions!

Re: Earthquake Oklahoma Just Felt It!!!
hmm I just posted on the thread about radiation in Indiana, because a possible explanation for the bombs, if that is what they were, was to relieve pressure on the New Madrid.

The fact that there was an earthquake so close to us makes me feel that my observation might be related.

I am in Southern Arkansas, and didn't feel any Earthquakes, but for first time ever a few hours ago I saw a black, unmarked helicopter circling area, and then I didn't see it again.

I think there is something building, and they are monitoring it closely.

eek.

Not sure what to make of it.

no they don't. you've lost all credibility there. cali has it's share of shallow quakes. and no 2.5 anywhere would feel like a major jolt. lame attempt to make a small quake seem dramatic.

dude, you sound like an a-hole - if you read the summary it basically backs up what OP is describing.

they don't explain why that is, but I would imagine it has to do with the actual amount of surface area and composition of crust there.

“One of the saddest lessons of history is this: If we’ve been bamboozled long enough, we tend to reject any evidence of the bamboozle. We’re no longer interested in finding out the truth.
