...I had to use a 60-ft ladder and a leather welder's jacket to get a friend's cat out of a tree...cat loves me to this day for saving his ass lol...poor bastard...

One more thing cats die in trees all the time! Our friend who owns a tree trimming business says he finds them quite frequently. You need to help your kitty now!

but if it's a large wooded area maybe the cat didn't run up a tree. he could just be wandering in the woods.

Lure him down with catnip and cans of sardines!

Try some catnip at the base of the tree.

btw, concerning catnip...it roots like mad in plain ole tap water.
it is a MINT and they love water like crazy.

Fire Dept won't be able to get a ladder truck into the woods, someone did mention tree trimmers (not as help, but they may help)...call some local arborists in your area (tree cutters/trimmers) within a few hours they will find it. You need someone who has climbing spikes, a harness, at least 2 lanyards to get around the branches, and some good rope (plus a bag to bring the cat down in) if you are talking about 60 feet up. It may not be the least expensive solution, but I seriously can't imagine any other way you will get that cat down. Then again, they aren't cutting anything so you may get lucky and find a company that has some compassion...they may send someone over for free/cheap, it really doesn't take long to climb a few 60 foot trees. You may want to make "Buddy" an inside cat after this adventure. I have all that tree climbing stuff, I would do it if I was close.
