It seems like people born before the 80s are much more self-suffieient and a whole lot less whiney than their younger counterparts. I was born in 1975 and much prefer the company of baby boomers to the whiny brats who were raiased with ridiculous expectations about maintaining the quality of life to which they were accustomed. I have several 20 something cousins who constantly whine and complain that they are "stuck" living with their (mooching off of) parents because of how everyone else screwed up their world. I'm constantly reminding them that when I entered college, we were told that we'd be lucky to flip burgers, but we all still followed through and made the best of it. If we had to borrow tuition and work 2 or more minimum wage jobs and have roomates to make it, then we did. None of this is new. We didn't use the state of the world as an excuse to stagnate. My standard advice for young people is to buck the trend, borrow tuition if they have to to get a well paying job, never return home after college even if it means saving less money or paying rent before they buy (the horrow!). I figure any kid who does that has a ten year head start on their peers. |

Then we pay close to 50% tax to help prop up home prices for those who got in before housing went sky high. Its not Baby Boomers as a whole fault. Its the fault of politicians who believed that absurd housing inflation was a good thing. |

Ever heard of unpaid internships and the two-tier economy? In order to advance in my field, I was working 80 hours a week, not getting paid for half of it, while making minimum wage at the other half in order to support myself (thank God I had a brother that I could split rent and bills with, otherwise I would have been fucked). Millenials have their faults, but a work ethic ain't one of them - that's part and parcel with the economy they've inherited and that's been created over the past twenty years. You literally do have to work twice as hard in order to ascend up the ladder. Compare this (and surely you know them) with the bloated, clueless, Baby Boomer that pounds on a computer monitor like a nutless chimp because he has the computer skills of a five year old, dumps his workload on his younger coworkers so he can take a two hour lunch break and go home early, and all in all is about as useful to office productivity as a sack of dildos. Seriously, acknowledge the economy as it is, not how some mewing dipshit imagines it to be so he can maintain a world a self-delusion. |
