You can demand “God’s given rights” only from the God himself; the state is supposed to guarantee your the Constitutional rights. But there are no rights without obligations in real life.

IMHO, individual and state sovereignty have to be in sound balance and independent to one’s personal opinion about the government currently on power. It’s hypocritical to declare own sovereignty based on how you see the current government.

The rule of the law - being set up by the elected representatives of the people - is common to the principle of Democracy and Republic (which are not mutually exclusive at all).
