This storm/hurricane/typhoon season will NOT dissapoint.

It's early, the water is very warm. The currents are very unstable.

Should be some top notch DOOM.

ohno

My personal celebration of what is a natural cleansing process of Mother Earth is not "on topic". You are shooting the meesenger so to speak. I did not create the typhoon, nor did I create the nuclear power plant, and run and secure it poorly. I did not ask millions of people to overpopulate the Japan region either.

They have brought this on themselves and the people who they choose to lead them and who they place their trust in.

We shall see what happens and how it impacts the Japan region and if there is more damage done to the fukushima plant, which is clearly affecting all life on the planet.

Again... did I ask them to build nuclear power plants all over unstable regions that are known to have volcanoes, earthquakkes and storms...? No.

TIme for them to REAP what they have SOWN.

So what are we going to be afraid of after this doesn't bring the DOOM ??
 Quoting: mikebo2

Easy there skip, this is just the pre-game show. Doom hasn't made the playoffs yet, we'll start being afraid *IF* the fucker does damage. But to NOT keep an eye on it would be foolish.

Many of us are not here to cheer on doom, despite what you may think, many of us just want a head start warning in case doom should indeed arise, because we don't trust our governments to give us one.

Ahh, The "We are just keeping an eye on things" statement.

While I agree that all things should be looked at and monitored. The Titles of these threads and many, many of the statements prove that for many, "Monitoring" is not what they are doing.
More like fear mongering and hoping for doom.

Understandable, the term got popular in even shadier corners of the internet than this one.

A troll is someone who purposely posts things they know are going to enrage others. They may or may not agree with what they're posting, but the ultimate point is to piss off as many people as possible.

Trolling can be a good thing too, it flags individuals who have become too emotional for an unbiased discussion. Some trolls are clever, and will work at subtle plans to enrage certain people, but most are easy enough to spot. Indeed, it's often only the foolish and spastic who take the bait.

Popular methods of trolling GLP include, but are not limited to:
* calling people shills out of context
* claiming to be a black man and saying something about white women
* starting threads that say they disprove evolution but contain no evidence
* being Brief
* showing a blind admiration for officers of the law (see above)
* calling minor events 'DOOM!' to enrage skeptics
* calling major events 'bullshit' to enrage realists
* etc...

And now I will return on topic.

Looks like Guchol has been upgraded. According to accuweather.com winds are now in excess of 150mph, making Guchol a super typhoon.

Farther north, Guchol will move just off the eastern coast of Japan as it begins to recurve. While it looks as though Guchol may come close to making landfall, the strongest winds, usually found on the eastern side of the storm, look to be mostly offshore.

In fact, the main threat the storm poses to the main island of Japan will be its torrential rains. Heavy rain could lead to mudslides and flash flooding, especially in the mountains just west of Tokyo.

It's the flash flooding I'm worried about. Fukushima's basements are below sea level. Common fuel pool's maybe 10m above sea level. The plant sits in a dug-out depression by the coast, and the remaining surrounding hills appear to be earth and/or clay. Hope the surrounding trees have deep roots. They stuck it down there so they wouldn't have to pump seawater very far.

One of those 5000 degree molten slag piles goes underwater, boom.

The second tropical storm, the one off Hainan, is getting better organized and strengthening. Remains to be seen if this one will feed into Guchol for the "perfect storm".

I braved the mountain roads to check on Tomato Patch Z101. All seemed calm.

Tomorrow when I go again I will be dragging a large plastic sheet to cover aforementioned tomatoes.

*

Still very calm here in Amami - it's been calm for two days plus now ... I don't think this is necessarily a good omen. It's like the approaching typhoon is like a vacuum cleaner and it's sucking all the air in its path.

I checked the meteorological agency here and the storm seems to be expected to move past more-and-more South as time passes. However, Amami is still well-within the perimeter of the storm.

Calm - Too calm.

Fortunately I am easily able to move all the stuff I'm responsible for so it won't cause a problem to others if it gets caught in strong winds - but I can't say the same for my untidy neighbour. A few years back two sheets of his corrugated steel roofing sheets flew and struck me broadside. If one had caught me on the edge it could have sliced me in half. - Exciting times.

(I'm bored).
