Geez - take the vaccines! And use good (Cutters) insect repellant. In Thailand I got typhoid (so drink bottled water) and dengue fever (mosquitos) - it sucks being sick like that and in foreign hospitals. Make sure you are updated on your shots. Hepatitis, DPT, etc.

Are you asking 'me' who said to get your shots updated? No way! I was a volunteer on the Thai/Burma border with refugees. And have seen lots of very sick people because of no access to modern medicine. Of course if you dont want to OK, but you asked for advice. Be careful with everything you eat if you are going with no immunizations. Dont eat any raw unpeeled fruit and veg/salads, again only bottled water. Take lots of Vitamin C daily. But when you say 'abroad' where exactly are you talking about - if it is 'underdeveloped' then . . . this.
