Saw him on Celebrity Rehab and sensed he was truly serious about recovery. Granted, he made some foolish, horrendous decisions in his life, but I honestly believed he was seeking change, and I found him likable and shockingly kind-hearted when he was sober. Like someone else posted, my hunch is that alcohol abuse finally claimed his life. That alcohol is some insidious stuff for so many people.

I think he had some brain damage from when cops almost beat him to death. Poor man was still trying to promote peace between Whites and Blacks. RIP Rodney...

I watch the crime stories on cable. You wont believe how many cases are dedicated to spouses that kill eachother for the insurance money, Im not saying this about Mr and Mrs King

A few posts up is a very good scientific explanation. I remember reading stories (especially in the Summer, of course) about kids drowning in pools, and their bodies always seemed to be on the bottom of the pool.

In fact, I remember one from maybe two years ago which happened in a public pool and they didn't find the child until everyone had left the pool at the end of the day, the Lifeguard didn't see him because he had sunk to the bottom and there were so many other kids swimming that the surface was roiled up.

I DO hope that this case doesn't fall to page 84 in the paper, there are MANY very weird parts to it that don't make any sense, as several other posters have pointed out.
