For the 1000th time, idiots.-.. Where's the scientific evidence of TB being a contagious disease?

You pretend to be on the side of Science, yet you just keep repeating knee-jerk slogans eith no sceintific backing at all.

That's a tough one. He's a risk to others without treatment...the penalty is too stiff though.
 Quoting: -GooGooFlexy-

What penalty would you suggest? What penalty would isolate him so that he would not be a serious danger to others?

I agree with what happened.
TB is contagious and if you do not follow the meds correctly it evolves and becomes incurable.

TB is usually a false diagnosis. The WHO has warned about it.

If this man had knowledge he could easily have challenged his diagnosis.

want more convincing?

tb is a symptom

you cant catch a symptom!

and the bacteria that causes the symptoms is present everywhere.

so how does isolating someone and force treating them help everyone else?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 17604067

TB is not a symptom, it is a disease - an extremely contagious disease when it's active within an individual.

there are many people with tb and they don`t even know it....

you could be sitting next to one right now....

what is your point?
Beyond one's own mind there is no dazzling light to come shining in from outside to wake one up. If one recognizes one's own intrinsic State as pure from the beginning and only temporarily obscured by impurities, and if one maintains the presence of this recognition without becoming distracted, then all the impurities dissolve. This is the essence of the Path-namkhai norbu.

Why is there a legend about the descent of Christ into hell? The Teacher addressed the lower strata of the astral world, saying: Why, by cherishing earthly thoughts, bind oneself eternally to Earth? And many revolted in spirit and rose higher.

Re: California man charged & jailed for refusing treatment for TB
really you have no idea what im talking about do you, i feel like i have wasted all that i have typed already.

i previously explained outbreaks are due to poor diet causing an immunity failure, and that diet traditionally was common to persons in an area.

you hear of any outbreaks of tb in coutries where persons have a relatively good diet and hygiene as a result?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 17604067

The majority of TB contacts experience nothing. Studies have demonstrated that only about 30% of healthy people closely exposed to TB will get infected and of those only 5%-10% will go on to develop TB disease. Young children exposed to TB are more likely to develop disease than healthy adults.

So what do you do, wait for the bodys to pile up?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 4103987

Where are the bodies, moron?

Fear mongering is not science, it's quackery! You can't poison somebody's lever to placete your irrational fears!
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1297793

while in 2010 there were an estimated 8.8 million new cases and 1.5 million associated deaths

Not enough bodies for you?

Of course you'll hedge over the word associated but in those situations so many systems start to fail...

Of course MOST of the deaths are in third world countries that DON'T adhere to the draconian laws in the US.

So that tells me the draconian laws WORK.

Re: California man charged & jailed for refusing treatment for TB
TB bacterium can cause a disease (TB)which produces granulomas (grainy pus balls)in the lungs, bones, and other tissues. The patients who have developed cavities in their lungs or granulomas in their larynx are the most contagious.
Certainly, people with weakened immune systems are more prone to develop the disease. Weakened immune systems can result from poor diet, chemotherapy, steroid therapy, and chronic illnesses like diabetes or AIDS.
People who develop new positive skin test to Tuberculin are required by most states laws to be treated. If they do not comply with the (free) treatment, they can be confined and treated until they are deemed to be likely non-contagious to the rest of society. Patients who have cavitary lung disease or laryngeal symptoms and whose sputum shows the "red-snappers" under the microscope must be hospitalized in negative pressure treatment rooms and treated for several weeks/months until they are no longer coughing up the TB germs.
People with normal immune systems can be exposed and develop positive TB skin test. If not treated, the next time their immune system is weakened, they may develop active TB.
The multi-drug resistant TB must be treated for 18 months, and the sputum must be clear of the TB bacterium for 9 months before treatment is stopped. The treatment can be unpleasant, but the disease in certain populations has a very high mortality rate(~80%). You don't want any of your family or friends getting it.

So, what is the real conclusion here?

Nobody can decide if TB is contagious apparently.

Even if it is slightly contagious, don't you think it should be dealt with?

tb is a symptom of a disease

tb is also the name given to specific bacteria

the bacteria is contagious, but everyone is already infected.

the only way the bacteria causes disease is if the immune system is overpowered by the bacteria, which will only happen if you have a problem with the immune system.

everyone who has received a BCG vaccination will test positive for tb on a skin test.

the only way to be sure someone has tb is a biopsy.

there is no greater chance of getting tb disease off someone who has the disease because the disease itself is not contagious, just the bacteria that causes it.
